There are several possible reasons for the knocking. Do you have your water heater turned
way up for extremely hot water? If so, back it off and see if it helps. You can turn off your main valve and open the lowest level valve (lowest to ground level) and one at highest level. Wait until lowest level drains to very slow drip and close both faucets and turn main back on. You will get air at first but this may solve problem as well.
