Last Names

I've always wondered about this time to time. God created the earth and Adam appears and then Eve. If they were the only two people on earth and started a family how did so many last names come up. Even if their kids married each other they would still have the same last name.

I have no idea what the answer is at all. I just happened to think of this question and put it on here.
