I would definitely agree with much of what you said. The suspect, in many instances, can dictate the direction in which the arrest is headed. The same can be true for the officer/officers involved. If you show up on calls acting like Billy Bad ***, expect for your bluff to be called from time to time. We all know that every department usually has at least one officer with a reputation for being a little more aggressive than the other officers. Some officers think they are above the law, untouchable. They usually give no respect and seldom get respect in return.

Respect is a two way street. Granted, some people will fuss and fight no matter what. It's the only way they know. Too many officers take that behavior personal and then he/she acts out of emotion...rather than training.

The arrestee dictates it every time. Saying "some of the time" is not fair to the hard working law enforcement officers. Just because one agency has two alleged incidents does not justify tainting an entire profession with generalized comments such as yours. I have sat back while you commented on the officers involved in the scandal but I can't let you lump us all into the same pile. There is more to being a police officer than what you have seen on TV.

You're apparently not paying attention. If you can tell me that your department doesn't have (or has had) men/women that have a reputation for kickin' butt and takin' names....then you're either in denial or have your head buried in the sand. I have consistently defended law enforcement....and will continue to do so. However, The suspect doesn't always dictate it and you know that. Too many officers command respect but are incapable of giving it back. Your "us".....has included me.....so get off your high horse and realize that the entire profession has not be generalized by me at any point. You think people are born hating cops? Wake up...it doesn't happen that way. Some are taught as children by their parents...some are taught by their own experiences. One bad officer can change a person's mind forever. If you can tell me that in your career you've never seen an officer overreact, talk down to someone for no reason, have an over aggressive personality/temper for the job or strike a suspect when it's wasn't needed.....then you're lying. A cop that's burnt out, mad at his old lady, having a bad hair day, or whatever...can dictate the behavior of the people that he/she is dealing with.
