I don't know what was bungled or planted and what wasn't. I'm sure the jurors felt the same. They would have believed the evidence collected and given a guilty verdict if they'd had no reason to doubt the reliability of the evidence. The fact is that those collecting evidence WERE sloppy and placed just enough doubt in the jurors' minds that jurors were forced to find him 'not guilty'.
