The jobs that are being created are not good jobs. This article has an interesting discussion of how the economic slump is affecting the genders differently. A quote from the article:

"We had an expansion of jobs for home health aides, retail clerks, child-care workers. They're low-wage, they're dead-end, and they don't have any benefits."
