We pay for memberships at both Sam's and Costco and still feel like it's worth it. Costco gasoline is cheaper than any of the brand name gas stations. My husband got a MUCH better deal on his hearing aids, purchased at Costco, than through a Beltone store or doctor's office.

Each franchise carries different items so if we don't find it at Sam's, we go to Costco or vice versa, and usually find what we need. I know that some companies offer a corporate membership to its employees as a perk. I had that with an employer while I was living there in the Shoals and also had the same deal with an employer here. It's worth it to find out if your company offers this option. Neither my current employer nor my husband's offer it for Sam's or Costco so we just pony up the fees ourselves.

If you're at Costco in Hoover just look for the couple roaming the aisles every weekend. The woman will be trying to hold the tall guy with the moustache back while the guy is buying EVERYTHING IN THE STORE. Oh, you may not be able to actually SEE me, cause I usually can't see over the top of the overloaded cart....
