Interesting discussion! Food for thought buttercup, I think the shape our healthcare is in is primarily our (the patients) fault. Docs are afraid of us, we are overly eager to sue the same people helping us. If docs hold onto their scripts tighter we will blame and sue.

How dare you make me suffer with this minor back pain? You should have provided some pain management!

God forbid someone does off themselves, if the doc hadn't prescribed anti-depressants, the family will be hunting for the docs head.


I don't think the pharmaceutical industry has any bearing on a doctor diagnosing a condition. I do believe they have an influence on the doc prescribing med A or med B for a real diagnosis.

The reason for the spike of depression being reported is plain as day in your article, there was a way offered to manage the depression so of course more people will be seeking help for the condition they had no help for before. The article is slanted heavily.
