Illinois doesn't have a reciprocal law with Alabama for CCLs. Suggest you check the back of yours for a list. The Federal Firearms Owner Act protects one traveling in states with strict hoplophobe laws. It must be unloaded and in the trunk, or otherwise inaccessible to the passengers.

While I appreciate their sentiments, nothing is enforceable in law. States may refuse to apply federal law per the constitution. However, no state constitutions allow cities and counties to ignore state law.

am aware I can't carry in Illinois, so are they liable if something happens? since they are saying I can't carry. I just thought it was a good question. I do all I can not to go to places that don't want me to carry.

I'm afraid the Supreme court said that police only have a duty to protect the public and not individuals; you're on your own: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...District_of_Columbia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...tle_Rock_v._Gonzales

gun rules and laws

Sadly I have to go to Illinois soon. I try to stay away from places that don't want guns. However don't have a choice on this trip. So question (or thought) is if someone is in a place that post a sign "no guns" and something happens, are they libel. After all by banning guns aren't they saying they will protect us?

Firearms are tools -- specialized, even. Some shotguns are designed for trap and skeet target practice. Other shotguns to hunt goose and duck, while other shotguns to hunt quail and such. There are a number of extremely expensive target pistols and rifles, which would not be useful for hunting. And, others that are quite useful for hunting. Can guns kill people -- not by themselves anymore than an axe can jump up and hack one to death, Both require a human to use them for such. Wozzie, I'm...
