"If you’re reading this, and you donated money to Harold Camping’s campaign, by now you’re pretty depressed. You’ve been taken, and worse than that, you’ve been embarrassed. You may feel stupid, and that’s because you’ve done a stupid thing – you trusted your preacher blindly. You believed without thinking.

But that doesn’t mean you’re stupid. Smart people sometimes do stupid things. A truly stupid person would NOT learn from this mistake. A truly stupid person would keep following Camping as he ‘recalculates’, or says “god has forgiven us because of the prayers we sent up” or some other lame excuse for his rapture not happening. Hopefully, you aren’t one of these people, who are destined to be hurt again. Hopefully, you have learned a lot in the last few days.

I urge you not to hurt yourself. Your shame will pass, and your money will be re-earned. You can lead a normal life if you start leading with your intellect, and not your desperation to see the end of the world. God is fiction, and preachers lie (most of the time). But no matter where you stand right now, YOU have potential. Use it."

I believe this is from David Silverman, President of American Atheists.

I don't believe in the rapture and didn't even give it the time of day.

I hate to see it take time here.

Atheist like A. Bombastus should not be trusted any more than Camping. They can prove, or disprove nothing regarding the existence of a deity. They lounge around the university, sipping wine, and making fun of the faithful.

Camping used two unrelated Bible verses, along with an estimated chronology, to make this ridiculous assertion.

Any time anyone tells you when the end will come, is mistaken or lying, and showing his ignorance of the Bible.

Jesus said, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone."

I’m neither a Christian or an Atheist, but I’ve known & know some Christians that should not be trusted any more than Camping.  I’ve read of/heard of/ & seen some Pastors that lay around, no matter where, sipping wine & making fun of their flock.  I’ve seen/known of Christians that is mistaken, lies, & quite frequently show their ignorance of the Bible.  To pick out the Atheist as the only ones that do this, is poor judgment on your part & shows your ignorance.

If I were to fall flat on my face, & need help getting up, I would be more thankful for help from an Atheist than a Christian that wears the hat.

There's a lot of "Christians" that believed Camping & gave him their life savings because they believed him to know the day & the hour. Considering he's 72 million richer, he doesn't sound very stupid to me.

Most Christians would never have heard of this man nor his predictions were it not for the media and some Atheists making a big deal out of it.  For the vast majority of Christians, it was a non-event and not newsworthy. They are very much aware what the Bible says about Christ's return, that we do not know the day or the hour.  The hoopla was every bit as foolish as those buying what this man was selling.

Why do you say the Atheist made a big deal out of it? The people interviewed by the media for their opinion of this goofy man stated they were Christians. Not one Atheist was interviewed.

I don't understand why Christians have such a need to pick on Atheist.

Because it is the atheists who post this kind of crap in religion?

It is the atheists who attack the Christians at every turn, not the other way around.

Camping would have been left in his room alone if the media had not picked up the story and ran with it. People blowing their life savings on billboards and ads are now broke, humiliated, and destitute. Hopefully, real Christians will help them out.

Depending on which report you read he had over 200,000+ people following his every word,  and all set to be "raptured". Gullible people gave him around 72 million, and did all sorts of other stupid things on his word. How do atheists suddenly become the cause of this? Christians bleat about the rapture all the time, they have bumper stickers talking about it, they follow these nutjobs all the time. That's not the fault of atheists. Let him help those people. He could start by giving them back their money, but then someone else would just come along and take it from them again.

Jenn, I will have to disagree wit you for the moment if you will be quiet and listen.

Camping deserved these 72 million of which you speak.

These gullible as you call them did not deserve the money to begin with.

That’s kinda the way things are supposed to work. The deserving will always come out with the larger share of the pie.

The deserving educate themselves, take chances and invent ways to come out on top; just like Camping.

He deserves the 72 million and it was forfeited as it should have been.

This is nothing new.

You are obviously not among the deserving.

You attack my trustworthiness solely on the basis of being an atheist. Brilliant retort.

(btw, I'm typing this as I sip wine from campus while mocking of you)

Regarding other's supposed ignorance of the Bible, it's not my fault if believers selectively choose which sections to pay attention to and follow. It's not my fault if believers like you think that they (unlike most others) are special enough to understand the mind of God and decipher it's messages correctly while your fellow believers, reading the same book, apparently can't.

According to the Bible, the end would come within the lifetime of Jesus's listeners:
"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." - Matthew16:28
"But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God." - Luke 9:27
"Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation." - Matthew 23:36
"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." - Matthew 24:34
"Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power." -- Mark 9:1
"Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done." - Mark 13:30
"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled." - Luke 21:32
"Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?" - John 21:22

Also according to the Bible, the end would come within the lifetime of the the New Testament authors:
"But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none." - 1 Corinthians 7:29
"Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." - 1 Thessalonians 4:17
"Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son...." - Hebrews 1:2
"Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you." - 1 Peter 1:20
"But the end of all things is at hand." - 1 Peter 4:7
"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." - 1 John 2:18
"The Lord is at hand." - Philippians 4:5
"For the coming of the Lord draweth nigh." - James 5:8
"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass. - Revelation 1:1
"The time is at hand." - Revelation 1:3
"Behold, I come quickly." - Revelation 3:11, 22:7, 22:12
"Surely I come quickly." - Revelation 22:20

Camping, False Prophet of the Year, was expected to 'splain things with a public appearance today.  Did anyone see him appear anywhere.

Doesn’t matter who posted it. It’s about Religion & this is the Religion Section of the forum.

The Atheist doesn't attack Christians anymore than Christians attack Atheist.

The media picked up the story & ran with it because it's news. It's not everyday that a nut says the rapture is coming on a certain day & becomes 72 million richer for it.

For these people to claim to be Christians, then they surely knew about the Bible & what it says. To put their faith in any human being, especially an old man that had predicted this before, & give him their money, then they deserve to be broke, humiliated, and destitute.

Real Christians? What's that?

Pick on Atheist?  I bet they find that statement as hilarious as I do.  I didn't say anything that didn't actually happen. Google Atheist Party and see what a big deal they made of it.  They held parties in this day's honor to highlight this non-event and were splashed all over the news.

Unlike those that lump everyone together as if we are not all individuals, I did not do that...I said SOME Atheists because I know Atheists who are fair minded.

Of course they interviewed the nuts for TV...they want ratings & people apparently LOVE watching nuts.  Do you really think the nuts represent the whole?  Surely not.  Who do they pick to interview from the South?  The toothless wonder?  Yeah, that represents the whole, right?

jenn dear, are you making a sport out of making fun of old folk?

Question for you jenn, if your parents are still living do they give some monetary support to you?

I hope you and others like you prepare for the current trend that that is calling the money back home to the deserving wealthy. This in the end will result in crowd control. The old folk who have the money and land holdings at present will not leave it all to people like yourself but it will revert back to the deserving, that being the case you will be starved into submission. You have become a useless ward of society. the old folk will have the last laugh.

Think about it o'wise one

My bad.....for some insane reason I thought you meant the Atheist on here.

I've always wondered why when they interview someone from the South, it seems to be some uneducated, backhills redneck. Do they not know that not all Southerners are like that?

That's true but alot of people seem to think it's a Southern trait. Historically, it’s a dernogatory slang used in reference to people in the South.

Idiocy is universal.

I happened to be around when the word ‘redneck’ was coined.

It was used by the ‘hippie’ person to refer to those of us who kept our hair cut and the neck exposed to the Sun. Nothing geographic about the term. QED

Wow! If you were around in 1893, you’re old!!!

From Wikipedia:

A citation from 1893 provides a definition of Redneck as "poorer inhabitants of the rural districts...men who work in the field, as a matter of course, generally have their skin stained red and burnt by the sun, and especially is this true of the back of their necks".  By 1900, "rednecks" was in common use to designate the political coalitions of the poor white farmers in the South.

Would you pray that he can somehow ovulate, become impregnated and experience the joy of aborting the fetus. Imagine what he would have done if he had been baby sitting the first molecule of life 6k years ago. I think he would have aborted it and here  we  would be a planet without life ;thanks to omnibobble.

This is where the fable just flat runs outta talent. Right here, folks.

Nobody knows where god came from, yet they're perfectly willing to tell anyone who'll listen exactly how he created everything that exists or ever will exist and why he did it the way he did.

Especially if there's money and gullible people involved.

Religion only works on people who know as much or less about things than the preacher does.

yeah, buf-I gotcher 'broad and thorough understanding' right here.
