It's been around 20 years since Alabamians have been able to vote on a lottery measure. It's a topic of discussion again and it has cleared (barely) one hurdle to get on the ballot. There are lots of strong feelings regarding a lottery and those that are pro-lottery will point to the last 20 years and say look at the amount of money that could have gone for the State Education or Infrastructure. Opponents point to the damage that a lottery would do to families stating that money that would go to families would be spent, wasted, on the lottery. I think there should be better arguments against because I don't buy that one but either way I do think it is something that should come up for a vote and let the people of Alabama decide.
If the majority of voters vote against it then so be it but for the opponents I believe it should be defeated at the ballot box and not defeated by keeping it from a vote in the first place. Time will tell if we'll see it on the ballot but I believe it should be offered to the public and let the citizens have a vote rather than it being decided by the folks in Montgomery alone.
