I don't take political guidance from the Christian Coalition of Alabama. Just because gambling interests contribute to a candidate's campaign does not mean the candidate will support gambling. Sometimes the candidates receiving the most money from special interests are candidates who do NOT support those interests. The goal is to win them over with $$$.
Besides, Byrne has often and repeatedly stated in public that he is opposed to gambling. And one more good reason to vote for him is the oft-repeated assertion by the defeated wretches in the James Gang, namely that "Bradley Byrne is too liberal for Alabama." That is a strong endorsement of the man as I see it.
Byrne apparently favors a referendum election on gambling, but I am coming to believe that might be a good thing. I don't believe the people of Alabama will vote to legalize gambling. In view of recent developments on the electronic bingo front and the ongoing FBI investigation, I think gambling--and politicians who support gambling--are looked on more suspiciously than ever. A solid defeat of gambling in a referendum will put that issue to bed in Alabama for a long, long time. I will personally work hard to defeat the referendum is there is one.
Besides, Bentley also is in favor of a referendum on gambling:
"Bentley’s stance on social issues is also a plus. When addressing the need for an education lottery, Bentley states that, “I am personally opposed to gambling. Because of the legislature’s failure to address the issue, the people of Alabama must decide at the ballot box on a yes or no vote whether to allow gambling in any form.” Bentley offers a personal view of how he feels, but also realizes the need for the people of Alabama to address and vote on this issue."

That sort of neutralizes gambling as any kind of factor distinguishing Bentley from Byrne.
That said, I would not have any big objections to Bentley's election. Either of the GOP candidates is preferable to that weasel, Ron Sparks!
