From TD online:

"MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Robert Bentley will take on Bradley Byrne in the Republican primary runoff for governor after a recount showed Friday that third-place finisher Tim James lost by a wider margin than in the initial tally.

Numbers run by the state Republican Party showed James, who paid $200,000 for the recount, trailed the second-place Bentley by more than 200 votes with one rural county left to complete the statewide recount. The original tally from the June 1 primary showed James behind by 167 votes."

No more Jameses needed in the Governor's mansion! One such embarrassment was enough!

Byrne and Bentley are much higher quality candidates. Ron Sparks, the pro-gambling creature of expediency running on the Democratic ticket is a loser. This time, even all you yellow dog Democrats need to go with a Republican candidate.

I agree, Tim James should have conceded before spending another $200,000 only to lose by a wider margin.

I partially agree that Bentley and Byrne are better candidates. I think you are half right. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE vote for Robert Bentley if you plan to vote in the Republican Runoff on July 13.

I don't get the "creature of expediency" comment about Commissioner Ron Sparks. Can you explain?

It refers to a discussion in another string on this forum. Go to http://forums.timesdaily.com/e...?r=38210439#38210439

in which I posted this, referring to a Sparks political flip-flop.:

"He does not get MY vote. When this first came up, he explained that it is just his job and that of his agency to preside over the matter of weights and measures and he said that patrons of farmers markets should receive neither more nor less than they purchase.

Then controversy broke out--in the middle of Sparks' campaign for governor--and so he about-faced. Now he says his department will not be enforcing the regulations. He could just see those votes flying away!

Sparks is another creature of political expediency. I will not be voting for this Democrat, notwithstanding my almost spotless yellow dog voting record. I already have seen much to like about Bradley Byrne and he will get my vote this time."

Notwithstanding the above, I am open to persuasion relative to Mr. Robert Bentley. What should I know about him, in your opinion?

beturnU, my friend you need to research some, I don't like poltics and use to not like this organization to, but here latley they have change a lot.

This is from "The Christian Coalition of Alabama"

Note in the article, Byrnes, "He recevied hundreds of thosands of dollars in PAC money tied to gambling"

RE: http://www.ccalabama.org/html/news17.html

I don't take political guidance from the Christian Coalition of Alabama. Just because gambling interests contribute to a candidate's campaign does not mean the candidate will support gambling. Sometimes the candidates receiving the most money from special interests are candidates who do NOT support those interests. The goal is to win them over with $$$.

Besides, Byrne has often and repeatedly stated in public that he is opposed to gambling. And one more good reason to vote for him is the oft-repeated assertion by the defeated wretches in the James Gang, namely that "Bradley Byrne is too liberal for Alabama." That is a strong endorsement of the man as I see it.

Byrne apparently favors a referendum election on gambling, but I am coming to believe that might be a good thing. I don't believe the people of Alabama will vote to legalize gambling. In view of recent developments on the electronic bingo front and the ongoing FBI investigation, I think gambling--and politicians who support gambling--are looked on more suspiciously than ever. A solid defeat of gambling in a referendum will put that issue to bed in Alabama for a long, long time. I will personally work hard to defeat the referendum is there is one.

Besides, Bentley also is in favor of a referendum on gambling:

"Bentley’s stance on social issues is also a plus. When addressing the need for an education lottery, Bentley states that, “I am personally opposed to gambling. Because of the legislature’s failure to address the issue, the people of Alabama must decide at the ballot box on a yes or no vote whether to allow gambling in any form.” Bentley offers a personal view of how he feels, but also realizes the need for the people of Alabama to address and vote on this issue."

That means that both GOP candidates and Ron Sparks have the same position on gambling--though Sparks seems actually to be pro-gambling, not just pro-referendum. That sort of neutralizes gambling as any kind of factor distinguishing Bentley from Byrne.

That said, I would not have any big objections to Bentley's election. Either of the GOP candidates is preferable to that weasel, Ron Sparks!

Dr. Bentley has shown a willingness to work in bi-partisan ways that I have not seen out of Bradley Byrne.

Bradley Byrne has a "my way or the highway" mentality, and his election will ensure four years of political deadlock with the Democratic-controlled legislature (that is, if the Dems maintain control). Also, Byrne will make the point to fight with AEA everyday of his term (he's made that clear throughout the campaign).

The people deserve better. Our state needs a leader willing to work with political opponents in ways to get things done. Robert Bentley is the only Republican left in this race who can do that. Please consider voting for Dr. Bentley if you vote GOP on July 13.
I voted for Bentley the first time but will not make that mistake again. Upon further investigation and seeing how he is a pupper of the Hubbert/AEA mafia, I will not be supporting him in the future. I hate that, because I do think he is sincere about his mission, but we do not need another governor in office who owes so much to the AEA.

Which recent governor have we had who "owed so much to the AEA"?
