i don't use "lite". i have recently upgraded to the fastest they have. ultra or something like that. it is fast. maybe not as fast as comcast but hey, half the price. mine has only gone out once since i had it and that was kinda my fault. i like my DSL. like i said, half the price of comcast and almost as fast. sounds like a deal to me! Big Grin
I have been extremely pleased with DSL Fast Access. I pay 19.99 per month for this. I am in homes with Ultra Fast Access frequently (they pay 39.99) and I can see little difference.

My package came with the Motorola modem that lasted 10 months. I then purchased a Netopia on eBay. It's much nicer and was only 11.00 including shipping.

I am also in some homes where ComCast is used, and it has been extremely slow compared to ATT/BellSouth.

I have a Linksys-64 G router that works very well. One of my clients has some sort of expensive N router that has a very wide range.

Hope this helps.
I would, but the ATT says we live 3.1 miles from the repeater at the HS in Lexington and their range they claim is 3.0 miles. So it is dialup or the ripoff that is HugehesNet (I hope no relatives of mine) and do not live on a ranch in Western Nebraska with more cows than people in the county.

Oddly, my brother-in-law's family lives probably closer to us by road and has DSL. Odd dat. I frankly got spoiled by a T-line in college and work for so long! Shoot, I was in wonder when they ditched PINE email and graphics came up and then no more FTP but a GUI for catalogues in the libraries! Last time I was at Bounds Law Library at Tuscaloosa, it was still FTP and also in the Bishop Museum in Honolulu! I was thinking, "Now "f" is forward, and "b" is back, or is it "r" for reverse? I can't remember! Why not just make me do it in DOS, it is only the mid first decade of the 21 st Century . . ."

DSL rules! If you are in range.
PuF, 'lite' refers to speed and usage. hahaha.
lite would be sufficient for MOST users. i upload lots of art. these are big files and i need the extra speed. if you are still on "dial-up" you will be extremely please with dsl. you will feel like you got a new computer. and it is all installed really simply!! i have one of those fancy high end routers. hahaha. but i run 3 game systems and 3 computers in my house. (hey, i told you guys my house looks like best buy! Big Grin)

hahaha neal, i use to live in the middle of a ten acre field. (i bought a new house and moved to town. LOL.). i am jealous of you. i miss not having a neighbor and the fact if i wanted to pee off the front porch i could! hahahaha. and if someone saw me i would have been PROUD! Big Grin
i do have some good neighbors, but nothing beats the silence of living away from the city! Wink (i also can't see as much with the telescope because of all the lights! Frowner)
I have been using Bellsouth/ATT for the last 5 years. Not one complaint. It is a great service. I use a Linksys 54GS, $50.00 at Walmart. Still using the DSL modem Bellsouth sent me when I purschased DSL 5 years ago! Would not have Comcast if they were giving it away. I have have too many business issues with Comcast locally and in the surrounding states.
Now for what I am running at my house -
5 - wireless notebooks (1 vista & 4 XP)
1 - wireless desktop
2 - DELL servers (MS Server 2003 & Unbutu)
1 - Clone server (MS Server 2000)
1 - wired desktop (XP)
2 - XBox 360's
1 - Wii
1 - PS2
1 - PSP
With all this connected I get speeds between 1.5 and 3.0. I have the DSL Xtreme $37.95 a month, speed will depend on a number of factors.

I have no problem uploading video and pictures.
Difference between DSL and Cable!
1. Cable is a shared connection. Meaning if there are 100 people in your neighborhood with cable, then you are sharing the signal with them. My friend that has cable sees his signal strength diminish after 6:00pm.
2. With DSL it is a deadicated line, but it has a distance limitation. the maximum distance from the CO (the little box that feeds the neighborhood) is 15000 feet, if you are 1 inch beyond this distance you can not use DSL.
3. Lite refers to the speed at which you can download. At dial-up your are at 56k, with the DSL Lite you will be at 768K for downloads.
At fastaccess.com you can put in your phone number and it will tell you if you are close enough to get DSL. Depending on where you live you may or may not be able to get it.
I am 25 mins. from Florence, 5 from Loretto, 7 from Elgin and 10 from Rogersville. I love it here. I can hike, swim, wade, and hear a car coming on the gravel a half mile away. I live at one of the highest points in East Lauderdale and can see the lights of Loretto on clear winter nights when the Xmas decorations are lit. Plus, my creek never goes dry even in the worst drought and the water is always 55 degrees. Second Creek is less than a mile away and warm.

But that means no walking to the store or DSL and ATT Cellular is de rigeur for reception, oh well. I still miss my Tline so much! But the dogs come before luxuries.
