The religion of peace. Where are all the so called peace loving muslims that claim they don't hold with this kind of thing? Where are they protesting? Do they exist? What's the husband doing in NH when his pregnant wife and 2 year old son are still there?

The baby girl born to a woman sentenced to hang in Sudan for marrying a Christian American citizen met her father for the first time -- a moment that was captured in a bittersweet photo.

Daniel Wani, an American citizen who lives in New Hampshire, held his daughter, Maya, in his arms as she rested peacefully days after being born at a Sudanese prison.

The moment of joy was tempered by sorrow as Meriam Yehya Ibrahim Ishag, the Sudanese woman facing flogging and a death sentence for marrying Wani, gave birth to baby Maya earlier this week.

This Is the Woman Sudan Wants to Hang for Marrying a Christian

Sudan's Islamic court considered Ishag a Muslim and did not recognize her marriage to Wani, a Christian. That constituted a crime of adultery and she was sentenced to receive 100 lashes.

The court also found her guilty of apostasy by converting to Christianity and sentenced her to be hanged.

The flogging and the death penalty were to be delayed until after she gave birth.

The couple also has a 2-year-old son named Martin and reports state that the boy had been living with his mother in the prison.

Ishag is considered Muslim by Sudan's courts because her father was Muslim, though she raised by her Christian mother.

Wani and his brother, Gabriel Wani, grew up in Sudan but moved to New Hampshire. He returned to Sudan last week after his wife was condemned to be hanged.

American Rushes to Sudan in Effort to Save Wife

She is reportedly slated to remain in jail for two years to nurse the child before she is to be flogged and hanged.

The court's sentence has prompted statements of concern from Western governments and human rights groups.

Her lawyers continue to appeal and petition for clemency.

On another note:

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says he wants to accommodate the 10 percent of students in the city's public classrooms who are Muslim by closing schools for their religious holidays.

The city's public schools already close for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, and other breaks are timed to allow for observance of Christmas, Passover and Easter.

“It is complicated in terms of logistics and school calendar and budget. But it's something I want to get done in a reasonable time frame,” de Blasio told WNYC on Tuesday.

That's an understatement.

What Jewish and Christian holidays have in common is they can be scheduled in advance. The Muslim holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha cannot accurately be scheduled according to the Gregorian calendar used in the United States, because their timing depends on lunar observation.

And Muslims around the world do not agree on how those dates are calculated -- or even if they can be calculated in advance.

For example, the generally accepted date for Eid al-Fitr in 2014 is July 28, but it could also be July 29, and the actual date won't be known until the new moon is sighted.

Think of it like a snow day, when people wake up and find schools are closed because officials saw ice on the roads, except in this case the schools are closed because someone in Saudi Arabia saw the first crescent of the new moon.

Yeah, that'll work real well.

Too bad we keep sending these countries money, and bringing/allowing in and paying for like minded people such as the ones raping, beating, and killing these girls/women, and murdering our citizens in the name of this "religion".

Oh yes, religion is just wonderful.  I'd say there are way more than 2.6 million.

Data released Tuesday from the 2010 U.S. Religion Census shows Islam was the fastest growing religion in America in the last 10 years, with 2.6 million living in the U.S. today, up from 1 million in 2000.

The findings represent religious people who attend services. Census surveyors collected data on congregational adherents of 236 religious groups, including full members, their children and others who regularly attend services, with a 5% margin of error.

In the Midwest and parts of the South there are now more Muslims than Jews for the first time.

It's still not a "done deal".

The Sudanese woman sentenced to death earlier this month after refusing to renounce her Christian faith will reportedly be freed in the next few days.

A foreign ministry official told the BBC that Meriam Ibrahim, 27, is guaranteed religious freedom in the country, despite a judge's earlier ruling that she should be hanged for apostasy.

Ibrahim gave birth to a girl early Tuesday at a prison clinic in Omdurman, near Khartoum, one of her attorneys told FoxNews.com by phone.

She also faces 100 lashes for adultery – for being intimate with her husband, Daniel Wani, who fled to the United States as a child to escape the civil war in southern Sudan, but later returned.

International outrage against Ibrahim’s sentence has grown significantly in recent weeks, as more than a million people signed online petitions protesting the sentence. One such effort on Change.org has garnered more than 630,000 signatures as of Friday, and Amnesty International officials have characterized the punishment doled out by a judge to be a “flagrant breach” of international human rights law. It’s also a violation of Sudan’s own Constitution, according to the State Department.

It is not clear what diplomatic pressure the U.S. can bring to bear on Khartoum. Although American taxpayers send roughly $300 million per year in economic aid, the help is largely in the form of food and medicine. Cutting it off would only hurt the people, and not the regime of President Omar al-Bashir, who has been indicted as a war criminal by the International Criminal Court.

Sudan's government appeared to be bowing to the international condemnation. Over the weekend, the country's Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary Abdelah Al-Azrak told Reuters that "The related authorities in the country are working to release Mariam (Yahya Ibrahim), who was sentenced to death for apostasy, through legal measures," adding, "I expect her to be released soon." But neither Ibrahim's lawyer or her husband, a U.S. citizen, said they knew of any plans for her release. And today Sudan's foreign ministry spokesman Abubakar Al-Sidiq also said he was not aware of any plans for her release.

Sudanese mother freed from death sentence for marrying a Christian is now charged with fraud and BANNED from leaving the country as campaigners slam State Department for 'shameful' attempt to help her Meriam Ibrahim was due to be executed for converting to Christianity Mother-of-two was freed on Monday after nine months in jail
