The Shoals chapter of the Baker Street Irregulars, the American society of Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts, will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, in the conference room of the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library, 350 N. Wood Ave., downtown Florence.

The Disreputable Little Scarecrows – the Shoals scion society of the BSI – will discuss Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Holmes adventure, “The Blue Chronicle,” first published in 1892.

Set in Victorian England at the height of the holiday season, the complex case involves the theft of a precious jewel and the mystery of a misplaced Christmas goose.

The meeting will include a screening of the 1984 television version of the tale from THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. The adaptation stars Jeremy Brett as the brilliant consulting detective and David Burke as his faithful friend and associate, Dr. John H. Watson.

BSI gatherings are free and open to the public. New members and visitors are welcome. For details, call (256) 366-4512 or e-mail pillaroffire@bellsouth.net.

“My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people don’t know.” – Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett) in “The Blue Carbuncle,” from THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (1984)
