I laugh every year when I read the words of our presidents! We will balance the budget! These are all lies to justify we are all going to be screwed once again. First off, balancing the budget does not means what we have to do, "living within our means." Balancing the Federal Budget, means "we are going to spend as much as we want, how we want, and if it is more than what we can collect in taxes TO MOSTLY PAY THE INTEREST ON THE DEBT, then we will hide it. The theoretical difference between Republican budgets and Democrat budget is growing more similar but still the basic difference is that the Republicans reduce the taxes of the rich, spend more than can be paid and print more money and MANY more bonds which are not considered in M1 or M2, and cause inflation which affects the poor and middle class a thousand times more than the rich. Why does it affect the middle class and poorer classes more than the rich? Because we are spending 90% to 100% of our earnings for surviving and everything that you pay for to survive is taxed. The Democrats usually end up hitting the rich for more taxes and reduce the middle class taxes, so at least they make everyone pay more equally. But still it is a fraud against the American people. Look at this budget proposed during the Clinton Administration FY 1997 www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy97/pdf/feb_bud.pdf and compare it to the new budget FY 08 proposed by the Bush Administration http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/budget/2008/index.html In this you will note that in the 10 or 11 years, the budget has gone from 1-3/4 Trillion dollars to 3-3/4 Trillion dollars. This hype he spat at the State of the Union address was lies as well. He spoke of advancing the search for alternative energy. Don't take my word for it, he is giving the Iraquis more in war reparation payments than allocating to this. He has been and always will be in the pockets of big oil Oh and the part he is researching with tax dollars mostly is for research into using coal in different ways. My god, the oil companies bought up all the coal reservers of America in the 70's. I guess they figure the time is right for them to get a return on their investments since the government subsidized their buying it 30 years ago with tax incentives in investing in other forms of energy. The vets are really getting the shaft. IT's ironic how vets are praising Bush when in the VA they are running up waiting time to get into the hospital from 2 weeks to 2 months, and the budget includes improvements for this which amount to a few million dollars only. What a mess?= It gets worse every year!

You are on the mark. Clinton Balanced the Budget, Fought terrorism, put the treasury into surplus, and did not increas taxes on us common folk.
Bush started two wars, seems to be starting another, created RECORD deficits, reduced tases on the Wealthiest Americans, pushed the burden of a half dozen social and education programs onto the states, MANDATED FEDERAL STANDARDS FOR SCHOOLS AND DID NOT PAY TO ATTAIN THEM. Raised taxes in practically every state, nearly bankrupted several states in the process, and CLAIMS the State of the Union is GOOD.

PERSONAL NOTE.
I am a veteran, dependent on the VA for basic medical coverage, and this past year had to wait about 10 months for my ANNUAL PHYSICAL, and am into the 6th month of waiting for the followup on a couple of issues found when the physical finally happened. BUSH IS TRYING TO KILL OFF THE OLDER VETS TO SAVE MONEY.
Dear EdEkit::::
It's going to get much much worse before it gets any better for American veterans! With the current budget over the current VA administrated facilities, with ONLY the addition of the injured vets from Iraq & Afg, inclusive of you and other current vets, it will take 14 years to get the waiting down to less than a month for advisory cases, which is I presume your query. If you can't get care locally, and I have no idea these days who is over the VA there. It used to be Mr. Campbell. Anyway, crowding and over-used facilities is all over, but in some areas of the USA, it is less than others. www.census.gov/prod/2003pubs/c2kbr-22.pdf (You can look at the map in this pdf file and see where veterans reside in America and maybe search for a facility near a sparse area). I would suggest you go to the local VA office and ask them to make some calls for you and see which facilities in the USA have the shortest waiting time. You know that areas in the south where we live have some of the highest ratios of veterans compared to other regions of the USA. And too, this is not a recommendation because it would be costly as well, but believe it or not, if you case is urgent, you might speak with some of your buddies that live outside the USA. I have friends in Panama that are getting medical attention the same week. Shame to have to advise you of this, but I thought I would offer this news in case you are at an empasse and have a $1000 to fly out of the country and stay at a cheap hotel while processing.http://www.va.gov/hac/forbeneficiaries/fmp/fmp.asp
I did not use the word "DREAM", because sometimes, dreams do come true! And since we were completely removed from the "gold standard" during the Nixon Administration, no administration since has had the "obligation" to deal with reality. Along came Reagan and his crony George HW Bush and down went the money in Social Security. But let's talk about DREAMS!

What's happening is the biggest financial scandal in U.S. history, the biggest swindle of American working class families, or any working class, anywhere in all of history. The magnitude of the scandal exceeds the $1 Trillion bail out by American taxpayers of the corrupt Savings & Loan industry under Reagan and Bush I during the 1980s. The costs of the Enron-Corporate rip-offs and scandals under Bush II are dwarfed in comparison.

The $1.46 trillion Surplus paid for by workers to ensure a minimum retirement has been sucked out of the Social Security Fund by administrations from Reagan to Bush (with the agreement of Congress)! Not a penny remains in the Social Security Fund.

Despite legislation passed in the early 1990s declaring a 'lock box' on the Social Security Fund, the entire Social Security Surplus nevertheless has been permanently 'borrowed' every year and transferred to the federal government's general fund to help reduce and offset chronic annual Federal budget deficits over the past 20 years. Deficits totaling approximately $4 trillion dollars from Reagan through Bush—about $2.9 trillion of which went to tax cuts for the rich and for corporations, and the rest to pay for a doubling of military spending by Reagan in the 1980s, for two Iraq wars, the war in Bosnia, and for the current phony War on Terrorism.

In other words, American workers and families have indirectly been paying with their wages and their retirement benefits for the Reagan-Bush tax cuts and wars of the last 20 years! If the $1.46 trillion 'borrowed' were restored to the Social Security Fund there would be a massive excess of funds today in the Social Security System—more than enough to pay for universal health insurance for everyone in America!

Let's talk about the second biggest scandal of the 20th century next time...the Brady Bonds! and I will tell you of my experiences with Salinas, Hanks, Bush and Brady.

In an emergency, I can go to the emergency room. I live in Phoenix, home of the Barry M Goldwater Veterans hospital. I was speaking of routine care.
This is a personal issue with me, and if you want personal details, click on my name, and invite me to a private topic.
If you want to discuss the general circumstances, I am prepared.
As far as the budget goes, This is a fact: The general economy improves when revenue and expenditure match. When the Budget is Balanced.

wwbowling, I had to do some research on part of what you said to adequately respond. I only suggest "dream" instead of "joke" because this is not funny.

This swindle is about money, but more importantly it is about liberty. I have heard the quote, "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for lunch" several times lately, but that is not the whole BENJAMIN FRANKLIN MOTTO. The whole quote is this, "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb disputing the election."
What's happening is not a financial swindle. It is an attempt to TAKE THE LIBERTY OF THE COMMON PEOPLE OF THE USA. What else is new?

The trillion dollar bail out of the savings and loan industry was NOT a government swindle. It was the government paying an insurance claim under obligation because of a commercial swindle, committed by the Savings and Loan companies on their depositors. There is a book in this, based on the Liberal principal of POWER TO THE PEOPLE. This year, the Nobel Peace Prize went to a BANKER. It was justified, beause this particular banker was providing loans to very poor, very small enterprises. An often cited example is the loan of enough money to establish a cell phone account for one person in a small villiage. The woman then rented the cell phone for a profit to her neighbors who DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO HAVE A CELL PHONE. Step that up a few miles, to the Savings and Loan industry, and you have the motive for wiping out the savings and loan industry. It empowered the not so wealthy.

Social Security is not going away, but GW Bush would sure like to get that 1.46 trillion dollars invested in American Busines, rathat than acting as a cookie jar for the federal budget. That's is the MEANING of the privatization of Social Security. We have at least four Privatized retirement programs. They have names. ROTH IRA, IRA, 401K and all the retirement plans that Workers get from employers or unions. Surely, you are familiar with the corrupt union boss lending his brother in law money from the pension plan. Sorry, I meant ww, not Shirley.

Thanks for the push, I enjoyed organizing this answer.

write if you find work.

Ed, the word dream and Bush doesn't fit together in my opinion. To me and mine, he has been nothing BUT a joke since BEFORE the election of 2000!! And he has done NOTHING but hurt the working class of people. And he has done NOTHING but fight fight fight... I wish HE just knew what ONE day of combat was like... but he doesn't.

He could care less about our son', daughter's, aunt's, uncle's, dad's, mom's and friend's lives. NOTHING!! He is ALL about $$$$$$ and more $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and that just about sums that up!
I have been very fortunate a few times in my life Edekit. I am not retired but I work when I want. I am from the Shoals, but live in Panama. I started reading the forums and reacting to them, because I am moving back home later this possibly, and probably will be relocating one of my companies there. I don't like the remark about the corrupt union boss, and that term is coin by people up north and not by any southerner I have ever know. My father and one of his brothers, were labor leaders for around 20 years. I watched people offer my father everything from cash to calves and he never took any of it. When my father died, he had no debts and owned only his modest home in Muscle Shoals, having died from a car accident in his Ford Escort hatchback. So, like every profession...there are a few bad people, but by far and large, the majority of the people are fair and honest.

Well, I can't say joke and Bush <>#$%@>^&>* at the same time withoug coughing and cursing. Would Nightmare be a good substitute for Dream? You have to keep in mind that after what I have seen in Arizona I have a lot of nightmares. Dream and Nightmare are synonyms You don't do general assignments reporting without a few bad things to look at.

Acolades to your father, and my condolences to you and your family.
My dad was both organizer and auditor in Chicago in the late thirties. That's one of the reasons I grew up in Arizona, things can be pretty hot for people who audit books in any capacity.
You and I are in total agreement regarding corruption. It is NOT rampant, and one of the reasons it is not is the members who are actively keeping tabs on their reps. Still it happens, and when it does, it is usually the Union that puts a stop to it by reporting it to authorities.

PROBLEM IS THAT THE CONCEPT GETS PUT IN THE PUBLIC MIND. And the anti Union forces, and they are NOT confined to the North, beat the drum to the funeral dirge for the Union involved, it is all an attempt to disenfranchishe working men and women.
