Well, I thought Scott Walker just hated working people. Now, we find out , he hates baby deer as well.

Don't get me wrong, this breaks my heart, but this sounds like another "one sided" story trying to punish someone for doing their job, having guidelines they have to follow, and making it seem like they were enjoying it. I don't think it's true that they came in all heartless and such. I may have missed it but I didn't see any mention of the woman hearing gun shots. Too, just how many agents showed up and why were they labeled an "army" or a "swat team"?  Was it a body bag or a  cloth bag used to transport small animals? She mentions tax payers money being wasted, then says she'll sue?

transport bag for small animalsThe ideal transport bag for small animals - especially cats and wildlife. The tight-weave netting expands as required to several times its original size to comfortably contain animals up to 25 pounds(12 kilos). The lifetime zipper closure is full-width for easy in and out. It shuts completely so is safe even for snakes. The dark color allows full ventilation for no overheating but diminishes visibility for a calming effect. A safety handle makes carrying it easy. An attached plastic zip-lock pouch will hold identification.

NR Supervisor Jennifer Niemeyer and the agents deny that Giggles was killed at the shelter. They maintain that the deer was merely tranquilized and euthanized off-site.

Niemeyer also explained to a local reporter that they killed the deer for both the safety of the animal and other wildlife, as well as area residents, citing the fawn’s potential for disease or other dangers.

“These are always very difficult situations for both parties involved,” she said. “And we are empathetic to the fact of what happened because we know in our heart of hearts they tried to do the right thing.”

Niemeyer then likens the caring of the small animal to an illegal drug operation when a local investigative reporter questioned their use of resources. “Could you have made a phone call before showing up, I mean, that’s a lot of resources,” the reporter asked.

“If a sheriff’s department is going in to do a search warrant on a drug bust, they don’t call them and ask them to voluntarily surrender their marijuana or whatever drug that they have before they show up,” Niemeyer said.

Still say there's more to it than the shelter's side of the story. Kinda sounds like the shelter didn't want to comply with the law. By not getting it to a wildlife shelter they basically killed it.

==============================

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources received two anonymous phone calls saying that the shelter was harboring a baby deer – which is illegal in the state of Wisconsin. State law does not allow the possession of wildlife without a state-issued permit. However, the law does have one exception: a small 24-hour window “to remove or transport the wild animal from one location to a more appropriate location.”

Apparently, the shelter had possession of the deer for more than 24 hours, thus making its presence illegal, providing cause for full-out surveillance of the shelter and subsequent raid and euthanizing of the 2-week-old baby deer.

Fox news has a bit more:

"Wisconsin law bans residents or shelters from possessing any live wild animals without a license. Wisconsin does not rehabilitate deer so if they find an abandoned fawn, the creature is left to die, Schultz said.

“We took it of course and we made arrangements to transfer the deer to an animal reserve in Illinois,” she said. “The day before she was supposed to leave, we had the raid.'"

State regulations may allow only 24 hours, but this to be ridiculous when one sees the amount of effort to seize one little fawn.

"On July 15 DNR agents and four deputy sheriff’s staged the surprise raid in what staff workers called a massive and “intimidating” show of force.

According to a state affidavit, the DNR had been conducting aerial and ground surveillance in advance of the raid searching for an “illegally-held live captive Whitetail deer.'" http://radio.foxnews.com/todds...r-named-giggles.html

Use of aerial assets and men on the ground for a prolonged period of time.  Really good use of assets.  The shelter is owned by the Society of St. Francis -- what did they expect to find -- a gang of armed resisters?

Well, we're still only getting the shelter's side. I don't know what law enforcement expected, but two calls about the deer tells me someone knew something, maybe the shelter not having any intentions of taking it anywhere else. As of now we only have their word they were going to do that. She's awfully anxious to sue too, why? Why does the name of the shelter mean anything? St Francis is the patron saint of animals, doesn't mean it's run by a church. And believe it or not, because I do love and care for animals a friend gave me a three foot tall stone statue of St Francis and it's in my yard. Seeweed scours the net for anything to make a big deal out of things that make law enforcement look bad. Just like he titled this thread with the word  "shooting" in it, and blaming it on scott walker, Just like his past thread where he tried to make it look as if the swat team had run in and disrupted a peaceful protest and started arresting people.  All I'm saying is, there is another side to the story, I don't think they did a huge "raid" on the place, I think any officers there had to be there by law, and maybe there was something fishy about the shelter or there wouldn't have been two calls about the place. Unless we get the full story we'll never know.

From the video, it appeared that it was a fairly large place. Maybe they thought more officers would cover more ground? They didn't shoot it. And it wasn't a SWAT team. Would someone other than Best bother to speak about the facts? Or the truth? Yes it's sad. It is, however, also illegal to harbor the animal. The truth is always closer to the middle than you guys see it. I'll bet not one of those officers enjoyed being there, yet Seeweed (the resident cop hater) calls them Barneys. By the way, nice elaboration (I mean BOLD FACED LIE) on the shooting.

You have pegged me wrong, I don't hate cops. What I HATE is the fact that we seem to be moving closer and closer to a police state. The average citizen shoud not have to live in fear that some  time in the middle of the night a swat force will break into their house and shoot every body up, because some neighbor 2 streets over smoked a joint and they got the wrong house.  Any carring person, should be able to rescue a helpless animal and put them in a shelter without a swat team coming in to "euthanize" them.

I'm just longing for a time when the police respected peoples rights, and served to protect them, and help them. I remember that time. NOw, it seems police departments are becoming revenue collection agents , and as I have related in the past, don't give a flip if someone invades your house, or steals stuff out of your yard. That doesn't make any money for the city. Still, I can't understand why so many resources was put into the capture and killing of this little deer, Do they not have anything better to do ? Makes no sense , even if it had been over 24 hours - who the hell should care ?

This kind of action is not acceptable to a free people, and the more the sunlight shines on these kinds of things, hopefully the sooner we the people will take back our cities and towns from these legalized thugs and try to get back to the Norman Rockwell view of how the police force interact with the people whom they are sworn to protect.

"In an ongoing effort to stop the spread of the deadly chronic wasting disease (CWD) among the state’s deer population, deer that are taken into captivity in areas of the state where CWD has been discovered are required to be euthanized."

"The DNR had received calls informing them of the fawn’s presence at the shelter. According to Stepp’s statement, the wardens did request voluntary compliance from the facility.

“When that didn’t happen, our staff took precautions to keep everyone safe as they executed the required search warrant,” said Stepp. “We are always very empathetic to those involved in these situations and understand how difficult they are to all who are involved.”

“In the end, we are charged by the citizens of Wisconsin to carry out state laws mandated by the legislature,” she said. “It is a responsibility we take very seriously. We don’t have the ability to pick and choose which laws to enforce.”

That must be one helluva mean fawn to require so much firepower to put down when in a captive environment. I personally know people who could have killed a full grown deer all by themselves with a single shot 30-30., and no body armor.

Before you consider me paranoid , you know I have posted quite a few examples of innocient people getting shot in their beds, or while in their own yard, where police just walk up or break in and start shooting. You think that is ok maybe, but I don't.

And yet you have no problem with your Kings top law enforcement official (Holder) continually trampling on citizens rights?

Sheesh...

@Seeweed ... Me pointing out you put lies in bold print to further your recent agenda does not, in any way, equal me being okay with innocent people being shot. I'll bet that if you go back, you will not find me in support of any of those things. But hey, It's not like you go by facts here or anything. Emotion is the only evidence you seem to have.

Jt, are you kidding? They wouldn't have lived very long. Do you call the conditions those animals live in, the torture they endure, living? Don't hand me that mess about them taking care of prize birds or whatever, that's bull. Many birds taken in raids can go to farms if they haven't been made aggressive yet, and many of them do end up having a life that a bird should have. The ones taken in raids at the fights are to far gone for that. The cruelty to the birds should be enough, but raiding those fights isn't only about the birds, it's about the gambling, drugs, and all sorts of other things that go on that's connected to them.

Seeweed jumps vic, then posts this slanted, filled mostly with lies, piece, and is still trying to "make it so". Since he can't, he's using the typical leftie's method, change the subject and go in a different direction, and try to make it about something else, such as people being shot in their yards and beds. Pitiful. I still would like to know what scott walker has to do with it. Obama hates workers and America, guess he hates deer too, since he didn't intervene on behalf of the fawn.
