I'm having a difficult time finding blackened catfish that is any count. If you've got suggestions, spill em here. I'm all ears.

Otherwise, I will be using this thread as my personal blog of everywhere in the shoals that serves blackened catfish. I will discuss, rate, belittle, praise and just overall rant and rave about each place. And I will also be giving each place a rating on a 1 to 10 scale (1 good - 10 bad). This make take me a year to try every where, but let's get started.

Night before last..... Homeside Cafe on Cloverdale Rd.... Someone suggested Homeside in the other thread, so I thought I would start there. Two words about the blackened fish at Homeside..... NOT GOOD. Even though their fried fish is pretty good, they definitely do not know how to cook it any other way. Mine was very dry. Very rubbery. And the seasoning on it wasn't even a 'blackening' seasoning. Just tasted like some generic Cajun spice blend.

I ordered the AUCE, cuz it was on special, but I didn't even make it through my first plate On a scale of 1 to 10, Homeside gets a 3.

Cook it yourself.

It is not difficult and there are many recipes available online.

Here is one:

Unless you have a very good exhaust system over your range, you should do the cooking outdoors to prevent smoking up the house. I use a hot plate on a table I keep on the deck for this purpose.

Blackened largemouth bass is excellent. Blackening creates a texture in bass very much unlike what you obtain by frying; makes it seem more like some firm-bodied ocean fish.
