www.cantonrep.com is reporting that Terry Bowden has been offered the job at the University of Akron. I guess rumors of his recent contract negotiations were much exaggerated.

There are 18 Michelin Tire outlets in Akron. Maybe the Rotund One can offer his own image in place of the "Michelin Man." Tires are masculine stuff, so it would be a better fit, endorsement-wise than shilling for the Pillsbury Doughboy (who might be retired, anyway, if my memory is correct).

No rumors, he did sign an extension with UNA, but contracts mean little in college football these days. Bring on Edenfield, would be a great coach to help transition them to D1.
Good deal! Now maybe UNA will concentrate more on serving their student body instead of trying to be bigger than it is and moving to a D1 sports
Blurb on the screen during the Maaco bowl game said Bowden has accepted the job at Akron.
This is the coach who, only a few days ago, said he was staying with UNA and expected to finish his coaching career here?
Never believe anything any college football coach tells you except that he will migrate to the money.
Word on the street was that he wouldn't be getting any long-term contracts from UNA. Without knowing all the terms, it is hard to blame him for taking a better job.

But where will the University of Numerous Athletes be without an underground railroad to deliver all those delinquent cast-offs from SEC football programs? Won't they be heading to Akron now?
Probably.
UNA is better off without him. All he brought to the program was major college problems that shed a bad light on UNA. UNA has always had a winning tradition with very few problems. The tradition was not bettered and the problems increased dramatically. UNA fans have always loved their football for its pure and honest approach. UNA allowed Alabama and Auburn fans to cheer together without the bureaucratic BS that goes along with major college football. If he had stayed, UNA would have lost most of its fan base.
Ever been to Akron? It's not Shangri-La. I don't know why anyone would want to move to the Ohio Rust Belt under any conditions.
There again, UNA had a bargain. Successful SEC coaches make as much in one week as Mr. Bowden made in a year.
It's too bad that the OVC made a reversal about taking UNA into their conference. It's got the administration behind the 8 ball after the worked so hard fund raising for the program.
I thought he was doing a pretty good job but it seems a lot of folks around here didn't like him so I don't blame him for leaving.
Bowden had a good win lost record, however with the talent he had, no one in the
GSC should have touched them. Bowden's team just never seamed to be very disiplined. I wish him luck at Akron and hope UNA can find the right fit. "Bobby Wallace" anyone??
Bowden was a play caller. Don't know how good he was at the other aspects of coaching. The penalties they had would suggest mediocre, at best.
