I agree.  The Fair Tax would work much better than the mess we have now.

As for fixing his plan, ditto, he has said all along it's a blueprint. As least he's working on it and not following the Pelosi method of 'pass the thing, then read it'.

b50m must think that he has too much money, because he is anxious to allow Cain's plan to take a lot more than he is paying in taxes now. Or, he could just be an idiot.

Jimi has proclaimed that he is a grammer expert so we all need to keep an eye on his posts. I think you may have the wrong gender Jimi.

State and local sales taxes, combined, in most Alabama counties range from 8 percent to 10 percent. Add the 9 percent federal sales tax, and most Alabamians will be paying from 17 to 20 percent sales tax on groceries. That is not fair to anyone, but especially to low-income people, who already spend a high percentage of their income on groceries.

That is a major flaw in this plan.

Today I pay 8.5% state and local tax on my groceries. The federal government takes at least 25% of my pay whether I spend a dime of it or not. Now explain again how I would be worse off with Cains plan.

Plus, 999 will require that you contribute 10% of your income to private firms for a retirement plan.  Thats a mandatory 10%.  So its really 9% + 10%, plus the sales tax.

And sales tax cant be financed, so buying a $200,000 house will now cost $18,000 more up front in down payment. That should put an end to the housing boom once and for all.

We are already required to contribute to Social Security so what's the difference? I would much rather be able to contribute to my own retirement account as opposed to some gov't run debacle of a plan.

If you really want an explanation, there are plenty to be found on the net. I suspect, however, that you are not interested in the truth.

I only brought up grammar when someone accused me of not knowing the difference between affect and effect. It is at least the second time, and he/she still doesn't get it.

I'm a she, and it wasn't me this time who said you used it wrong. You did, but you're the expert.

You are wrong again. You righties are always asking for proof. How about you prove that "affect" is not a verb and "effect" is not a noun. I am sure that the Florence library has several books that will help you in your quest for the "truth". It would be nice to see some of you nitwits show an interest in your language that doesn't involve immigration. Or is that the only time that it is important to you?

Once again you have proven that you are stupid.  I was trying to point out to you that if a person making fifty grand pays 9% and a person making one million pays 9% in taxes, they both pay their fair share.  And yes a third grader would know the answer to the question, but obviously the average liberal does not.  Case closed, liberals need educatin'

mad American has once again flaunted his ignorance. Even Cain can't explain his "plan". How in the world is a simple-minded redneck like you going to understand it? You are going to support anything that goes against Obama. Anything, no matter how it affects you, even if it will cost you money. That is insanity. No other explanation. You are insane.

Give up Skippy.  The only explanation is that Jimi is some idiot 13 yr old kid with no life experience getting his jollies by stirring things up.  Nobody could really be as stupid as his responses indicate. I mean, really, NOBODY could be that stupid.

Wanna bet? Look in the mirror.

Jimi, I ain't so dumb.  I know that a flat tax would raise my taxes.  I would support such a plan because it makes sense and is good for the country.  Many obama supporters do not pay taxes, but feed at the cost of tax payers.  Have you ever written a check to the IRS?  Forty nine percent of Americans don't pay taxes.  I wonder how many of that forty nine percent voted for the great one?

A lot of the 49% who don't pay taxes are rich people who avoid taxes. They certainly did not vote for Obama. If you want to pay more taxes so that more folks like them don't pay, then support Cain and the other Republicans who support the top 1% instead of you and me. Republicans support the rich. Democrats support you and me. The choice is an easy one, if you pay attention.

Will  9-9-9 be good for you?  Answer:  It will obviously be good for billionaires like the Koch brothers, who have their hooks deeply into Herman Cain.  He is connected in multiple ways to Americans for Prosperity (AFP), a right-wing Astroturf group predominantly funded by the Koch brothers. Cain's 9-9-9 plan is the creature of a Koch associate, Rich Lowrie. a Cleveland businessman who served on AFP's board of advisors from 2005 to 2008.

Despite his extensive association with AFP, Cain does not include his AFP work on his biography on his website. H-m-m-m-....

If you think the Koch brothers have your interest at heart, think again. If you think the 9-9-9 scheme will be good for you, then you are either a billionaire or a dupe.

As the top one percent pay 38 percent of the taxes, its assured they pay at significant amount.  As I've shown, in times past, when the rich are taxed at exorbitant rates, they retreat into state and munie bonds (tax free) to preserve their wealth -- resulting in less revenue, although the rates are hgiher.

This has occcured for at least 80 years, but the regressives never learn.
