Can anyone that knows about antiques tell me about this lamp?

It is a nice looking sconce and I love the shade. Underwriters laboratories does not manufacture anything though, UL is just for the purpose of safety standards. Other than that and that from the photos the wiring appears to be in good shape I couldn't tell you a thing about the lamp.

thanks. i bought it at a yard sale years ago in tennessee. have used it since i got it up until a few years ago. the globe looks like the original.

There is an antique store in Elgin that can tell you anything you need to know. I can't think of their name right off hand but you turn left (if coming from Florence) at Elgin Crossroads then the first left. They are behind the thrift store. It's the first metal building on the right. They have tons of lamps and globes like that. If you don't see it the people at the grocery store can tell you where it is. It's pretty easy to find.

There was Long's Antiques in Elgin, but I believe she went out of business. She was very good to help you match a replacement shade. Someone else may have taken it over and moved to the old Glass Shed location.

It appears to be from the 1950s, but can't be sure. You may find a similar one on eBay.

It appears to run off of electricity.

The switch on it looks 1960s or newer to me. Could be a Victorian reproduction made to look like a gas lamp.

Well, it can't be any older than 116 years.
