They will raise the gas prices until you are forced into buying one. So much for a market drive economy or choice.
Gas prices are going up period. "They" will not have to raise them for political purposes.
On the other hand, I don't have any car that will qualify. I wonder how many people driving those hummers will want to turn them in for $4500.

Heh, wait for it to become mandatory, AND for the government to be the one to decide just what constitutes being a clunker.
Clunkers eligible for the program must get 18 miles per gallon, or less, in combined city and highway driving.
However, cars that have not been insured for the past year or those that are older than 25 years are not eligible to be traded in for vouchers.....................................

They can do anything they want, just look at how they have nationalized banking and the auto industry. Of course the latter was a payout to the union leaders.
