"Authorities in Afghanistan say a US drone strike has killed 6 people, including a top recruiter for the Islamic State militant group.
Police in the southern province of Helmand said an aircraft fired a missile at a moving vehicle on Monday. They say it killed former Taliban commander Abdul Rauf and 5 others.
US troops captured Rauf after the collapse of the Taliban regime. He was held in a US detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, but later released.
He is believed to have joined the Islamic State group recently. He reportedly began recruiting fighters after being named a "deputy governor" by the group.
The group has been recruiting in Afghanistan and Pakistan as it looks to increase its presence beyond its strongholds in Syria and Iraq."
