All of 101 in Lauderdale is named for him. I know two ppl who have tried to have this done, one who's on here. (not counting blues)

There'e also been a column in Shoalanda about it, but Gov. Riley hasn't done a single thing.

Everybody should write the gov, but I don't think he's ever gonna do anything. It'll just stay patton.
There were 2 men from this area killed in the Ia Drang valley massacre in November 1965. I call them the forgotten men. There is a book and a movie based on this battle called We Were Soldiers Once ....And Young. Charles E. Cox from Lexington,Al and Felix D. King Jr. from Florence,Al. were among those brave men slaughtered in the Ia Drang. These men may not mean anything to todays society but I can tell you that their lives were and still are of great value to the families that lost them. There are far too many forgotten men and a name on a wall in Washington that many of us will never see is just not enough.
There are many good men who deserve to have their names put on many monuments...but I believe the name should go beyond one or a select few of individuals..
Years ago the Native Americans called the Shoals the "The Singing River" because of the noise of the water rushing over the rapids.

This river has been here long before we came as settlers and will be here long after we cease to exist. I feel that it would be fitting to give bestow a name on the bridge that describes the nature of the river in its early birth before man came in and altered it.

I hope one day you read the following:

"SINGING RIVER BRIDGE"
It was referred to as Patton Island Bridge long before it was ever built. Probably 20 years ago. It was called Patton Island Bridge during the construction and when it was finished it was called Patton Island Bridge; so why argue with something that has been called by that name for so long. As for naming it after this one or that one; it is hard to pick and choose from so many deserving individuals. Singing River Bridge sounds like a title for a movie.
The other person ET referred to is Ken Waddell of the American Legion. At this point, I'm not sure if continuing to contact Gov. Riley is going to accomplish anything.

While Gov. Riley should have the final say, I believe that Dr. Parker Griffith could have some influence with him and plan to work in that direction.

If all else fails, Gov. Patton does have very little named for him at this point in time, and perhaps its only fitting that the bridge carry his name.
