I interrupt the left v. right charade in thiese forums for just a moment to inject this small dose of reality. Charles Hugh Smith seems to be a man who has his finger on the pulse of the problems of our country and has been writing excellent essays exposing it.

 Here is a great quote.

 The Fed's manic manipulations are losing their effectiveness. Like insulin in a pre-diabetic patient, the Fed's massive injections of money are not stimulating jobs or productive investment; each new announcement of "easing" generates a smaller jolt of ever-shorter  duration.  At some point the economy will  respond to the Fed's "easing" injection by going straight into diabetic shock.

The state of the economy is largely psychological.  The Repubs ploy of maintaining a divisive front in DC is merely electioneering.  And it may not be working.

American voters disapprove 56 - 38 percent of the way President Barack Obama is handling the economy, but by 45 - 38 percent they trust the president more than congressional Republicans to handle the economy, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

The country is in a recession, 71 percent of American voters say, but by 54 - 27 percent they blame former President George W. Bush more than President Obama.

The president gets a 47 - 46 percent job approval rating, unchanged from the June 9 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University. That tops a 64 - 28 percent disapproval for Democrats in Congress and a 65 - 26 percent disapproval for Republicans. Obama outscores congressional Republicans on several points in the deficit reduction battle:
  • Voters will blame Republicans over Obama 48 - 34 percent if the debt limit is not raised;
  • Voters say 67 - 25 percent that an agreement to raise the debt ceiling should include tax hikes for the wealthy and corporations, not just spending cuts;
  • Voters say 45 - 37 percent that Obama's proposals to raise revenues are "closing loopholes," rather than "tax hikes";
  • But voters say 57 - 30 percent that Obama's proposals will impact the middle class, not just the wealthy.

Ditto,

 You missed the boat entirely. It really doesn't matter what the polss say or even what the American people think right now. The information that they have is carefully packaged and disseminated to them via the media. This is the most propagandized period in our history.

 Both parties are using the federal dole to entrench themselves in power and enrich themselves at our expense.  they throw us the bone while they eat the steak. If the American people ever wake up to the charade that has been orchestrated against us, members of both parties will go to prison.

 It doesn't matter what people think NOW, it matters what they think when the stuff hits the fan. And it will.

 The polls are about to change, and not for the better. As more people face the cold hard realities of this economy, they are going to start to ask, "How did we get here" and "Who is to blame". When these questions are asked and answered, revolution usually follows.

What follows is incumbents reelected.  R. Shelby is the King of Pork, in multiple years, and in the last election he only had to spend $80,000 of his $18million campaign fund, and got 65% of the 1.5million votes cast.  AlObamians call themselves conservatives, but dont care for the fedgov to be conservative when it comes to spending that benefits them.

Are you suggesting that money wouldn't get spent otherwise?  Rather it go to Kalifornia?  When you come up with a plan to eliminate all PORK all together, not just in the State you hate, we will be all ears.  Did Shelby quit funding your little "hand it to me" business, no more pass-thrus, no more set asides, no more IDIQ?  You love the Government train as long as it passes thru your depot.  You ever earned any work for a living or is that Government Contract Teat all you ever had?

Yes, as long as the conservatives fail to live up to their professed beliefs, there will be no improvement.  As long as I get my check, I dont care how mush debt the Congress runs up, and neither do you.

Correction...Polls are the only thing that matters...to politicians.

In the real world a $14T debt that took some 235 years to amass and spending patterns that will nearly double that with in 10 (TEN) years is the only thing that matters...it's unsustainable.

Well admitting it is usually halfway to solving the problem.  I'm not on the Gov't teat.  I cut costs from it, actually, said many times before abolish the IRS, simplify tax code to about 5 pages or less, eliminate ALL tax loopholes period, standardize tax rates and leave them alone, forever, let states stand on their own, etc.  Yes I do care about the debt.
