Cognitive Dissonance

I've noticed that you do not submit you own writings anymore; only one liners and copy/paste what others have written.   Is there a reason?  Is it getting harder to think logically in your advanced state of atheism; so, you depend on posting only what others write?  Just curious.

 

But, it is a step up from your YouTube ministry which occupied your time for so long.

 

I will pray for you that your thinking and reasoning skills return so that you can actively participate in ongoing discussions more intelligently.

I think we have all suffered this in our lives. I know I have. For me it is smoking when I know how harmful it is for me. Yet I down play the danger in my mind and continue on. Then feel guilty. LOL It does not just apply to a religious belief.

 

However, I do agree with you that probably explains normally intelligent people believing in creationism and young earth.

Exactly crusty. Bill would barely be able to post without copy/paste. If it's not the bible he's posting over and over it's long non-nonsensical articles from other fundies and his rehash of what that person posted, and one of his "it happened to me" stories about whatever the subject might be. Then we have his repetitive threads where he copies/pastes everyone's post from another thread, along with his replies to those posts. I guess that's what he considers his "gift of writing".

I don't think Bill is insane. I think he's just extremely religious, hard headed, opinionated and suffers from a god complex. Many religious people are this way. Nothing new really. My grandpa was this way. Bill reminds me of him in so many ways. He was always right about anything and everything and if you dare question him you are going to hell or you are doing it all wrong. His word was the last word. He and he alone had a direct line to god. Nobody else's opinion mattered. Remind you of anyone? 

 

Rramm is clinically insane. There is no other explanation except heavy drug use or mental retardation. Does a sane person create multiple id's to talk to his old id's that have been banned(sometimes years ago)? Is a sane person obsessed with dinosaurs and atheist and newspaper forums? Does a sane person lie continuously about everything just because they can? Does a sane person carry on conversations with themselves and then deny it in the same breath and get hateful and nasty when confronted about it? Do sane people constantly try to convince others that they are highly intelligent and they are a very important person? Most intelligent people I know don't need to constantly troll a newspaper forum in small town Alabama trying to convince people they are smart. Do sane people try to pass themselves off as man who has apostles such as Jesus did? Do normal, sane people talk about themselves in the third person? The movie "Rain Man" comes to mind reading lots of his post but then most of it is just insanity, delusions and nonsensical rambling.

Let's put aside all this talk of hatred and perceived insanity for a day or so.  Let's forgive the delusional who display a certain attitude here and consider that there is a normal, far from rare psychological state of cognitive dissonance at work.

 

How best to challenge someone in such a state?  Outright hostility, tempting as it is?  Or subtle, nuanced reason?
