Hey, did anybody read the front page of the TimesDaily today? If you didn't, go to TimesDaily website and read it. The Ku Klux Klan is making a comeback. I think they are going to leave the blacks alone for a while and go after the Mexicans. Or should I say the illegal Mexicans and anything else that's illegal. It's like the sixties all over again. It's like déjà vu all over again. I mean even the news is comparing Anna Nicole Smith's death to Marilyn Monroe's death. So, what do you think about the KKK making it's comeback? Reckon they will have white sheets, colored sheets, or business suits? LOL.

A subtle attempt by the media to link anti-illegal immigration groups with hate groups. In a round-a-bout way they're saying "if you're against illegal immigrants, you're for the KKK." And some people will fall for it. After all, it's better to grant amnesty to millions of illegals and continue this country on its downward spiral, than to agree with the KKK. Roll Eyes
KKK is dead. It won't come back. Reputation is so notorious due to the 1960's, folks don't even know about what they did in the 1860's or the 1920's (the first two eras of KKK popularity...Most folks today don't realize this but one Hugo Black, former U.S. Supreme Court Justice from just south of the Shoals was in the KKK).

The Minutemen have done a VERY good service in alerting all about how bad the illegal alien thing is. It took a grass-roots effort to prod the gov't into doing something. However, the gov't is to blame by not enforcing the laws on the books. And that is the travesty.
Race is used by illegal immigrant supporters simply because they have no other argument. Even that is weak because the issue has nothing to do with race, it has to do with the enforcement of laws and protection of legal citizens. Why the KKK is even mentioned is beyond me, they're nothing more than a disorganized group of uneducated radicals scattered across the country. Not really even worth discussing anymore.

Oh, would that it were. In May of 2006, there was a rally at the Franklin County Courthouse where, in an odd twist of fate, some folks were invited to a cross-burning later that day in Vina.

I assume they were the Klan, alive and well (and unfortunately apparently thriving in their current goals). I grew up in Alabama, and I know that other than in the last week of October, men in hoods aren't dressed up for Halloween.

Here's a link to the TD article, along with a photo and links to others at the bottom of the article.

I grew up in Alabama as well, I've never seen a klan rally or knew (to my knowledge) anyone in the klan. Of the 300 people that showed up, and estimated 50 were actually part of the klan rally. That's a pretty small percentage. The rest of the people there were either protesting the klan or just curious on-lookers. This doesn't prove the klan is back and thriving, just that it's desperately trying to use illegal immigration as a recruitment tool for the uneducated.
Unfortunately, the Klan was only marginalized, never totally defeated. They have always been there, but I doubt many pay them much attention any more.

The Klan I recall growing up around was opposed to Jews and Catholics as well.

Even though the media is trying to compare Anna Nicole Smith to Marilyn Monroe, there is little comparison. At least to me, that is. Marilyn had class that Anna failed to acheive. Possibly because we didn't get to hear every time Marilyn sneezed, or had an affair.

On a similar note, any guess who will be next to claim to be Anna's babies father? it is a simple matter to settle. Anyone making the claim, submit a blood smaple for a paternity test, at their expense, and we'll see who really is the father.
The KKK of today is dead as a national organization along the lines that they had in the 1960's or in their heyday of the period from 1915 (about the time the silent movie Birth of a Nation came out, which restarted the KKK) to about 1933 (depression's height). The KKK will never be able to march on D.C. like they did in the late 1920's or early 1930's before the Depression really took root. There is a picture out there that shows this.

Then, the KKK was considered a "social club" almost along the lines of the Masons. However, they still had racist views attached. Big target back then was, you guessed it, southern European immigrants (legal, BTW). The KKK spread from the South to the North, becoming more a national group than a southern group.

Post WW2 you have the Civil Rights era, and the 3rd and final evolution of the KKK began, and gained notoriety. Rest it history.

NOTE I am NOT a member of the KKK, nor do I condone their vile acts of the past. Racism is wrong. However, it is also wrong to be ignorant of history and facts. And today, it is ignorant to not want immigration reform, and for law enforcement. To call someone "racist" because they believe illegal aliens should be deported immediately, stronger border security enforcement, denying tax-payer (tax-payer = you and me) funded social programs to illegals, and supporting cleaning up and shutting down business ventures that cater to illegal aliens, doesn't make sense to me.
I think the problem with the Klan (um...one among many, but I'm focusing only on this context) is not so much their interest in immigration reform as it is their seemingly tacit assumption that all hispanics - based on appearances - are here illegally and should thus be shunned. It's simply not true, and it's racist.

My own view of immigration isn't germaine to the discussion, but I do agree that everyone here should be paying taxes like I do, and so forth. Unlike the Klan, I don't look at hispanics and ASSUME that they're here illegally or that they are not pulling their own weight.

I do know there are many, many, many hispanic folks in the area who have immigrated legally, pay taxes, and are working some rough jobs for long hours to support their families. Kudos to them. Surely, there are also very many who are in the process of getting the paperwork completed. One trip to the DMV tells you that it's probably not an overnight deal. Then there are those who are not here legally, and those who are not paying taxes. I see a difference in the three.

I cannot tell the difference among these three by appearance alone (ie., identifying someone as a hispanic isn't enough information to determine whether they're legal or not). The Klan, however, doesn't seem to think any difference matters: you look like a hispanic, so you need to get gone. That's the racism.

If you go to that link, scroll to the bottom and click on the link that says more "More Klan Rally Photos," then scroll through to number 9 in the series, you'll see a good number of folks NOT in hoods who are clearly applauding what is being said. Unfortunately, I don't think they were ALL there just for curiosity or to protest. They do have a captive audience. By the way, (only) 50 ignorant, hate-filled people with an agenda can do a lot of harm.

You're right about using issues to recruit the ignorant. Again, unfortunately, there are a lot of ignorant folks out there. That's why the Klan still exists as a hate group.

Things have at least changed a little bit. I remember back in the mid 80s when they actually had a PHONE NUMBER for the KKK listed in the local phone book. If you don't believe me, get your hands on one and you can look it up for yourself. Now, apparently, they have business cards they give out to potential idiots. Roll Eyes

I saw the photo, two or three people clapping in a crowd doesn't represent the whole crowd. The article said around 50 were there to support the klan, about half a dozen or so appeared in kostume. I think most people with any kind of a brain would be embarrassed to be associated with the klan, there is no way 17,000 people in the country are members. I would estimate half that or less.
