I can honestly say that "normal" is what each person perceives it to be. "Average" is probably more what I was trying to say as some have suggested. Those that say they don't want to be normal, just remember that doesn't mean you have to be extreme.

I do think some take this forum way too seriously and way too personally. There is a reason in debate they have a time limit and a mediator. I think it would be good for a forum to have a limit on users for number of posts per day and words per post (of course this can't happen with the uncontrolled setup of multiple accounts.) This doesn't go against free speech any more than you asking someone to shut up for a minute while you get a word in.
It sure would challenge people to choose their words wisely and keep some from overrunning the forum with gibberish.

As for me the occasional post to express my opinion on something is about all I have time for. I do find posts about local issues of interest and it could be a good communication tool on things that don't make the paper or the news.

So no one has 2.5 kids? (that would be 2 and one on the way I reckon)

If you will read Manda's comment at the top of the page, ... the website that she is talking about DOES limit the number of posts people put up daily and she is one of the Admins + Graphic Artists on the site...... before they started that rule though, there would be 10-12 posts by the same person within a few minutes time... So, others couldnt get their posts/points across for all the jumble.

Limiting is a very good thing on boards of this nature, it gives everyone a chance, plus counter in the fact that the really good, well replied to posts dont just slip away by too many new posts going on.
Yeppers, Mom has that right. We do limit posts on our site, and it's worked beautifully for the nearly 4 years it's been implemented Big Grin

Bama, you seem to be what my site would call an instigator, but then again, I've seen plenty on here that fit that. In the end, it only makes those that are doing it, look bad. Smiler

It'd be nice to see the adults here play together better. This turned into a somewhat fun post.. Which in my opinion, this forum needs just a few more of Big Grin

Why don't you just choose the nearest lake and go jump in it? That is how good ALL of your replies are on this forum in my opinion.

I am SOOOOOOOOO good at my job, that I can actually multi-task, for one thing,... But where in the world did you get that I post here on the board WHEN I am at work?????

I have a LOT of time on my hands.... GET IT???

My kids are GROWN... GET IT???

I have paid my dues... GET IT???

So lay off, and get a life, a REAL one where YOU won't be on the computer either, because your comments and insults are now getting old and boring!!! LOL

Lol jion!!! I am glad you told me that, because that is the VERY reason I haven't cleaned out my closet for so long!!! Now I can!!! Yahooooo! Big Grin
Kindred, I think I sat beside you at Woodstock..[we didnt do anything, did we]...would you have believed that we would still be debating what "normal" is?...so much difference, yet so little....still fighting the same old wars we fought 40 years ago....no bogey man in the closet...of course there's a bogey man in the closet.....[its Bob Dylan]what bothers me is that we as human beings have not cleaned ourselves up much since then...

Is this in reference to me? If it is, I don't believe I'm an instigator, I simply express my opinions on the issue at hand. Since I'm pretty much in the middle, I've been called a left wing liberal and a right wing extremist. That just shows that I don't fall in line with a particular side. I form my own opinions and express them. Does that make me an instigator?

Nash, that BAMA comment was not meant for you, it was meant for BamaSunshine.... I can attest to that because I personally know the person who wrote that! Big Grin

Ain't THAT the truth!!! Plus, the wrong nickname too... no sunshine there!! "The Lights Are On But No One's Home".... La La La La
I started coming onto this forum mainly because I am homesick. We're moving back home soon and I can't wait. I've lived up north (Loved the snow) and out west, both in big cities. But without family nearby, it's not the same. Will you think I'm a baby if I say I miss my momma and daddy? Smiler

I wanted to see what people in the Shoals thought and talked about. It's been a while since we moved off. I've also got some advice and helpful opinions from some here.

It does seem like some people post the same topics over and over again. It gets a little old and some of the arguments become ridiculous. But I like to exercise the freedoms that our great constitution gives me by either a) ignoring the post or b) posting a reply. But the angry name-calling and hateful remarks of some really turn me off, at times. That is when I usually turn off the computer and go do a load of laundry. Why do some people let other's anonymous words get under their skin so much?

For the most part it is great to see a lot of reasonable and intelligent thinkers come together in the Shoals. I can't wait to come home!

LOL! For the most part if it doesn't cook in the charcoal smoker it comes out of a can or package at my house. Think I have time to cook, post on forums, AND clean the kitchen? NOT!! Homemade mexican cornbread sure is alot better though. When they gonna make that in a can like biscuits though?

Canned biscuits?!? Roll Eyes It justs take a few minutes to make your own. I love homemade biscuits!
Speaking of Corn Bread, in connection with normal people and posting to forums.

THE PRICE OF CORNBREAD IS GOING UP.
Corn is much in demand for making ethanol, the resulting increase in demand, with a smaller increase in supply, is driving the price of corn upwards. It is also reducing the supply of the major ingredient in bread, wheat, as well as most other grains, since farmers like to make money, and corn is the crop with the rising value.
Side effect, increased illegal immigration as people who eat tortillas made of corn find their cost of living increasing, with no increase in the value of their labor.
IT IS ALL INTERLOCKING AND CONNECTED. Normal people MIGHT DO WELL TO AT LEAST READ WHAT WE FREAKS SAY.

self-rising cornmeal-2 scoops
self-rising flour- 1 scoop
1 egg
a little vegetable oil
some milk

thats how my mom taught me, no recipe other than the one in her head. It was so good around 9 o'clock when I'd crumble it in a big glass of milk. YUM! Razzer

Sweet milk or buttermilk? My grandfather used to love to eat cornbread in buttermilk.

I love cornbread too. My mother makes it in an old iron skillet. Good stuff. I always check to see if there's any leftover which I go over.
Gee,
Is it normal for a person to persue an abiding interest in current events, and the thoughts of other people?
It is for me.
When did gossip and the water cooler become ABNORMAL?
I thought this was a technological breakthrough for normal people to enjoy conversation with other normal people.
Does a shut in like me qualify as "normal?"
Of course not, it is not normal to be trapped in a house alone for hours on end. Normal people can easily get out and about, they can spend all the time they want on the prowl for girls, or graft, Cash or Cuties.
Is it normal for a Writer to look for inspiring ideas wherever they are likely to be found?
Sure, it is normal for the Writer, but everyone knows WRITERS ARE NOT NORMAL. Most people know that it's not normal to think. It sure isn't normal to write those thoughts down and share them with anyone willing to read them.
THANK GOD FOR ALL YOU ODD BALLS OUT THERE. And may the ABNORMAL CONTINUE TO LEAD THE DULL, BORED, APATHETIC, AND INSESIBLE TO GREATER GLORY.

I learned a little about positives and negatives, or odds and evens, in school. Two odds make an even. So, philisophically speaking, if a positive number of odd(which is also abnormal)balls got together would that make them even,or normalballs? So, with that in mind, if a bunch of us oddballs got together, wouldn't someone have to take a count before they considered us odd, or other than normal? Maybe we actually are normal. Still with me? LOL!!!
we have had some fun with this thread and the judgemental attitude of the poster presenting it.
But to spread just a bit of seriousness on here after visiting a friend yesterday which i had not seen in many months it gave me some thought on the very particular thread. Her children are grown and gone, the hubby has a good job so when her mom was paralyzed by a stroke it was a loving choice for her to quit her job and bring her mom home to live with them, versus slaming grannie in a nursing home. She does an excellent job caring for her,but still has many long boring hours. The computer is her source of in-home socialization.AND continueing education as she has already enrolled for some extra online courses thru one of the universities.
So I suppose she would fit into the posters little box of not being "normal",,,,,nope not at all. She is above and beyond normal.
I have been seeing this topic and ignoring it for a few days now, thought I would weigh in since I am under the influence of Nyquil from that **** flu I knew was going to hit me, Missy Dog is not help (GET A FLU SHOT, GET A FLU SHOT) SO the answer is NO! In the dog's humble thought somewhat "fuzzy" opinion: what you call "normal" people are the one's who sit back and TAKE whatever is given to them be it local, state or national politics and policies. I like to think posters on boards like these and others are ones who are VOICING their disapproval or in some cases consent and yes USUALLY do back up their typing on a board with typing to whatever representative needs to be written by whatever topic is addressed! Beats sitting at home watching TV and doing nothing! THE DOG
I probably should start another topic for this question but since we got hijacked by cornbread earlier. Can anyone tell me how to make good fried okra, squash or green tomatoes. My mother says just coat them in corn meal and fry them. But everytime I do it, it just doesnt come out right. I just end up with a grainy inedible mess. Any suggestions.

Try flour,then egg,then meal.

Before anybody starts about me being a yankee, my mother was 100% back in the holler country girl, and she did teach me how to cook.
