I think this forum section is really great, and a person can get objective feedback on just about any issue. Mine is windchimes. I live in a recreational area (year-round, my only residence). A "neighbor" put up windchimes on his abode several months ago simply because he discovered that they annoy me to the bone. Others have tried to talk some sense into him, but he won't budge. Also, he spends about one night per month on average at this recreational site, and I am here daily. Management will not do anything. Anyway, I just wondered if there are any others out there who totally loathe the sound of windchimes. They are like nails on chalkboard for me, and I live in a constant state of anxiety and anger. I am getting my place ready to sell, but due to the economy it may not sell for a long time and I do not have the funds for a second residence. Thanks for feedback, folks. Happy Valentines Day.

Oh jeez. I love them. I love the big metal ones that sound like church bells tolling. On a breezy day, the music they make is unpredictable and haunting. It's as if windchimes give the air a voice all its own.

I also love the coo of a mourning dove, the rhythmic lap of waves on the pier, and the sounds of squirrels twittering in the brush.

I detest mechanical sounds of any kind. Have you ever noticed when the power goes off, you can hear silence in a whole new way?

Right on, George Sand!
I like wind chimes that make a low sound. High pitch sound hurts my ears. So, thick wooden wind chimes are my favorite. I would probably like the ones describes my George, too, because they would be more mellow.

Well? You asked. Smiler

This is also probably why I adore listening to someone (with talent) play the cello, also like Native American flute music - especially if I am outdoors.
Hi all,

It is funny how some things are so relaxing and calming to one person; yet, causes anxiety in others.

Personally, I love wind chimes, I love rain on a tin roof, I love to hear crickets and frogs, I love trees and plants.

Yet, I have a dear friend and she hates trees. How can one hate trees? Every single one has a unique personality. But, my friend said that if she bought a house with a tree in the yard; she would cut it down.

I even love the smell of dairy farms. They remind me of my grandfather's farm when I was a small boy. In my mind, I can still smell the cotton in the wagon, five foot deep, as I dove into it the freshly picked cotton.

I have another friend who hates crickets and will call an exterminator when he has a cricket in his home. In my home, don't you dare try to kill a cricket. They are welcome guests -- on my patio or in my home. I love the sound.

Since, in California I cannot find a house with a tin roof; I have a CD of rain sounds -- and I play it as I sleep at night. So soothing.

If anyone has any wind chimes they want to throw away; I will be happy to receive them. The nice ones can be expensive.

As the old saying goes, "One man's trash is another's treasures."

Maybe that is why God made us all unique. And, learning to live in harmony despite our differences is a sign of our maturing.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

I love windchimes. I have 2 on my porch and a couple inside for decoration. I say, if the man is only there one night a month, try and figure out what night he is there and take the windchimes down and place them in a safe place and then put them back up before he gets there for his once a month stay. This way, you don't destroy someone else's property and you don't have to hear them all the time and your neighbor can enjoy them when he is there.

My current annoyance is that I have a wreath on my door that has pink and red berries (for Valentine's Day) and birds keep flying up to my front door wanting to eat them... poor birds!

Well, I don't want to break the law by tresspassing on this guy's property, or they would already be on one of ya'lls chiming-loving front porches! My point is that it seems unfair to subject someone to something they consider noise pollution when one is not even there to enjoy what they love - all out of malice.

You could hire somebody to take care of the problem. I could use an extra buck. Wink

windchimes are cheap. he would just put up another one the next time he was there.

I love them and have them on all four sides of my house (they keep away bad spirts Smiler ), plus one small set in the kitchen and another small set hanging from the canopy over my bed.
