When I lived in Atlanta, years ago, I kept hearing great and glorious plans and prognosis regarding Birmingham.  It was said how Birmingham was going to be exploding with growth and would be building up like a mini-Atlanta.  Flash forward and I'm back in Florence, which I dearly love, but the promises and potential of Birmingham seem lost in time and gone the way of the Muscle Shoals musical theme park.

What is apparent is travel a little bit north to Franklin, Tennessee, and Nashville and the explosive growth is evident and happening in middle Tennessee.  As for Alabama, it seems that the area of promising growth is in North Alabama and the Huntsville/Madison Alabama area but still not the degree that Nashville is exploding.  One only has to watch the HGTV building, renovating, flipping, and design shows and Nashville is one of their targeted areas for their shows.

I know there have been some new roads being constructed around Birmingham and Birmingham has experienced some growth but not to the degree that Huntsville and Madison seem to have experienced.  So was I just dreaming about the great Birmingham expectations or did some others hear the same promises and ideas?  If so any idea what happened to circumvent the grand plans that was to transform Birmingham into another Atlanta of the south?  Again seems to me that all the promised Southern Growth has gone to Nashville.  Maybe some of it has to do with Tennessee not having a state income tax to deal with.
