yea,

When I was young, all the cops in Colbert county, city and county, were involved in the bootlegging business.

I'm not saying it was evil of them, it was just the system in effect. Those who had differences with the system were not hired.

Also, when it came down to protecting the citizens from dangerous people, they were about as good as cops anywhere... committed, but imperfect.

I'm not passing judgment on them, but that's the way it was. Beat cops took bribes from bootleggers, took their meager share, and passed the rest up the line.

Now that the Shoals lives in the 1880's, and knowing that the poor cops make $12/hr, I wonder how they make ends meet.

Maybe you shouldn't explain it to me.

I work in North Alabama and I can gaurentee you that I make alot more than twelve bucks an hour. The police officers that aren't as fortunate as myself work other jobs to support their families. This isn't the bootlegging days. We live in a time where people believe they are above the law. They believe they can threaten with lawsuits and other cowardly methods of defense to escape the punishment they so rightly deserve. There is at least one bad apple in every profession, but people love to hate the men and women in blue. I don't care if I'm liked or hated because I know who your all going to call when you need help, and it's not going to be your moma. Everyone knows it, but their just to ashamed to admit it. So, get on the forums and cry about being arrested, given a citation, or not having an accident report completed to your satisfaction. Cry me a handful, please!!

I wish the Colbert County "Dawson Gang" was still around as we would get our "kick-backs" and not have to lie, cheat and steal to make ends meet on the low salary of Cops. We took care of them and they took care of us. They were "good people" and helped so many poor and unfortuntnant Families around the Shoals. After paying off the Judges, Lawyers, and us Cops they still had money for the poor. Someone should write a book or even a "Bonnie & Clyde" type movie about them before their Legend is lost in time. The local law was forced to take them down against our will. We lost money when they were dissolved.
