More than 1,500 migrants have arrived in NYC from Texas this month

Another bus carrying approximately 50 illegal migrants arrived in New York City Saturday from Texas, with another bus expected later in the morning.

Migrants transported to New York City were mostly young men, as well several women.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has sent more than 1,500 migrants to the Big Apple in a bid to draw attention to the ongoing immigration crisis on the southern border.

New York officials said this week that the city is using 14 hotels to provide housing to the new arrivals.

"Texas is filling the gaps left in Biden's absence at our border," Abbott wrote on social media after the Saturday buses arrived. "We've made over 19,000 arrests, seized over 335.5M lethal fentanyl doses, & sent over 7,400 migrants on buses to DC and over 1,500 to NYC. While Biden ignores the crisis, Texas steps up."

Supporters see Abbott's bus program as forcing liberal cities and government to deal with the reality of mass illegal immigration.

New York City and Washington D.C. have positioned themselves as "sanctuary cities."

Critics say the buses are a cheap ploy for attention.

"He’s weaponizing asylum seekers," Manuel Castro, commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs said. "It is shameful, and it is our moral obligation to condemn the use of human beings for political purposes."

Castro was not the only official in Mayor Eric Adams's administration to blast Abbott. City Comptroller Brad Lander said Abbott's action are "inhumane" and "disgusting."

Lander said the city's resources are being stretched thin as they provide shelter, food, legal services and more.

The city's shelter system is "right up at its capacity," and they are looking into expanding and renting hotel space.

Gee, what's wrong? You expect other states to put up with this but cry when you have to step up? Hope you have lots and lots of hotel rooms.

Desperation met stupidity on the corner of bad luck and despair, and the democratic party was born.

Mayor Eric Adams said nearly 7,600 migrants have now arrived in New York City since May, a human crush that has sent city officials scrambling to find them adequate housing.

“We have about 5,700 that are currently in our shelters,” Adams told reporters Monday during a press conference at City Hall.

“This is in addition to the men and women of this city and families, children and families, who need shelter,” he added, referring to the Big Apple’s current homeless shelter population tallied at just over 52,300, according to the city’s latest figures.

The ongoing surge is further complicated as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott continues to send busloads of migrants from the southern border into the Big Apple added to those sent here by the Biden administration.

New York City’s “right to shelter” laws requires the city to find housing for an individual who requests it — regardless of immigration status or residency — so the Adams administration is legally obligated to find beds for the asylum seekers.

DC Mayor Bowser declares public emergency over thousands of bussed migrants

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser declared the busing of migrants to the nation’s capital a public emergency Thursday as over 9,000 asylum-seekers have arrived in the district since April.

The declaration authorizes Bowser to establish an Office of Migrant Services, which will provide support and services to migrants being sent to Washington DC from Texas and Arizona.

The district will initially allocate $10 million for the creation of the new office and will seek reimbursement from the federal government, according to the announcement.

“This is what we know. The crisis at the border is not lessening. It’s getting worse,” Bowser said at a press conference, adding that she expects “hundreds of more buses” to arrive in the fall.

According to the mayor’s office, about 9,400 migrants have arrived in DC since April, when Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott first began sending busloads of illegal migrants in an attempt to coerce Democratic leaders and the Biden administration to tighten border control. Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey began following Abbott’s lead shortly thereafter.

Abbott has also been busing migrants to New York City since June, and began sending buses to Chicago last week.

“In many ways, the governors of Texas and Arizona have turned us into a border town. We don’t know how long this will take to resolve. We don’t know how long they will continue bussing,” Washington DC Councilmember Brianne Nadeau said.

Bowser’s announcement comes weeks after the Pentagon rejected her request for assistance from the National Guard for a second time. The mayor twice asked for troops to be deployed to “help prevent a prolonged humanitarian crisis in our nation’s capital resulting from the daily arrival of migrants.”

In addition to providing meals, medical needs and translation services, the Office of Migrant Services will set up a system, separate from its established homeless service system, to house incoming migrants.

New York City shelters are so overwhelmed by the migrant crisis that Mayor Eric Adams is considering using cruise ships as temporary housing.

“We examined everything from the legality of using any type of cruise ship for temporary housing,” Hizzoner during an interview on WCBS Sunday.

“We’re looking at everything to see, how do we deal with this?”

Adams made the suggestion just hours before The Post reported that a record number of 9 buses carrying migrants traveled into the city.

Each bus typically carries between 40 and 50 migrants.

The influx is crippling the New York shelter system. Full-time facilities are being pushed to the brink and affecting the quality of life of the neighborhood and the city has opened 23 emergency shelters, but there are still not enough beds.

Cruise ships could help alleviate the stress, according to Adams, and were once an alternative the Bloomberg administration considered during its own migration surge.

Adams did not disclose any further details regarding the potential floating shelters but slammed federal policy of barring migrants from working in the US before obtaining work permits.

“We’re saying, ‘You could come here, but you are not allowed to work.’ That is unbelievable,” Adams said, noting the shortages in various sectors, including food, healthcare and transit. “We need to look and see what we are facing shortages, how do we go about allowing people to take care of themselves? If not, we, the government, must take care of them. That just makes no sense.”
