From the U.S. Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works website comes this strange admission and absurd conclusion by the EPA.

"The Environmental Protection Agency has said new greenhouse gas regulations, as proposed, may be “absurd” in application and “impossible to administer” by its self-imposed 2016 deadline. But the agency is still asking for taxpayers to shoulder the burden of up to 230,000 new bureaucrats — at a cost of $21 billion — to attempt to implement the rules.

The EPA aims to regulate greenhouse gas emissions through the Clean Air Act, even though the law doesn’t give the EPA explicit power to do so. The agency’s authority to move forward is being challenged in court by petitioners who argue that such a decision should be left for Congress to make.

The proposed regulations would set greenhouse gas emission thresholds above which businesses must file for an EPA permit and complete extra paperwork in order to continue operating. If the EPA wins its court battle and fully rolls out the greenhouse gas regulations, the number of businesses forced into this regulatory regime would grow tremendously — from approximately 14,000 now to as many as 6.1 million.

These new regulatory efforts are not likely to succeed

, the EPA admits, but it has decided to move forward regardless. “While EPA acknowledges that come 2016, the administrative burdens may still be so great that compliance … may still be absurd or impossible to administer at that time, that does not mean that the Agency is not moving toward the statutory thresholds,” the EPA wrote in a September 16 court briefing.

The EPA is asking taxpayers to fund up to 230,000 new government workers to process all the extra paperwork, at an estimated cost of $21 billion. That cost does not include the economic impact of the regulations themselves."

Typical, spending billions on non-existent problems.

"Apparently, no one in Huntsville has gotten sick from perchlorate. But there has been concern about contamination spreading from wetlands around the old Thiokol plant to the Tennessee River nearby. The intake for one of the city's water treatment plants is on the river just downstream from the ****nal.

So far, all data collected off-post do not indicate any unacceptable health risks to the community, according to Army spokeswoman Terri Stover, because the drinking water for this area is supplied by Huntsville Utilities rather than from local wells.

Huntsville Utilities regularly tests for percolate and trichloroethylene, said Tony Owens, water supply manager for the utilities. Trace amounts of trichloroethylene can be found in untreated water, he said, but Huntsville Utilities' treatment process removes all of it. "There is no trichloroethylene detected in our treated water," he said."

Strawman!  Prove the existence of these mystic toxins.  All follow the flow of water, which is monitored.  Are you claiming the existence of toxins that flow or crawl  uphill!

Here is a link to a report that details the waste dump that is Redstone.

What a little chicken hawk you are.

Somebody points out that your little area of big government is decidedly incompetent, and you take the side of the government.  You are an A*** licker.

When interventor or anyone with sense speaks of Big Government, you know as well as we do what we are referring to. The Federal Government. The Federal Government especially under the current socialist regime has the potential to double if not triple in size while destroying the engine the employers.

Ditzy,

I did not take the side  of government, or RSAs.  I asked for proof that the there were toxins that the Army wasn't aware of.  You replied with proof that they are aware of the pollution, thus obviating your argument that more employees are needed.

With you reply you degenerated into name calling further proving you have nothing of worth left to say.

Neither the Army nor the EPA know exactly where the contaminants are migrating too.  But, thats what remediation is all about...merely minimizing the damage.  The toxins are migrating off the RSA property, in particular to the TN River.  A clean up effort would have removed the txins from the environment by digging up them up and transporting the dirt in sealed containers to Emelle, AL for incineration.

If the EPA had sufficient manpower and resources, a clean up effort would have happened already.  The site has been a Superfund zone for 20+ years.  The levels of perchlorate found in the soil immediately S-SE of the old Thiokol property are the highest ever measured in the USA.  The TCE levels are also some of the highest.
