New Orleans evacuees demanding their meds. that was left behind in New Orleans. Yeah right, like grabbing those meds wouldn't have been the first thing on your to do list before loading the bus. Read this article, this is for all the naysayers who said how wonderful these people have been and hate to see them go back.

Just how did Mrs. B. know they were "street people?" Has she seen me when I work in the yard? I don't exactly look like Lady Astor. I'm sure these individuals were not allowed to bring much more than the clothes on their backs--I wouldn't expect them to be dressed for high tea.

Also, how did Mrs. B. know that they were demanding narcotics? You'd be surprised how many people don't know an opiate from an NSAID.

I'm sure some hadn't been to the pharmacy on the weedend of the evaucation. Hope springs eternal, and some made the wrong decision as to how to prepare. Perhaps others usually got a ride with a relative on weekends to go to the drug store. Now they were out of their meds and they panicked.

Yes, some were probably just rude, but I'll wager many were just scared and hungry and had no idea what was waiting for them at home. It will irritate a body.
My cousin is a nurse practioner who works with the Red Cross in another part of the state. They were told they get 800 evacuees, they got 2000 or more. The first thing they wanted to know was where their $2000.00 check was. When they were told they would not get one they were very ugly. Then they wanted narcotics, did not want to give correct names, ages, no Doctors names, etc. Not one of they forgot their cell phone chargers but could not remember their meds????. Only 2 of they asked if there was anything they could do to help. They were older in their 70's or 80's.
maybe they should have evac'd to a blue state...to hear obabma tell it, the libs would've been waiting w/ open arms to rescue them from evil bush who didn't bother to show up and personally drive them to safety....
now run on back to your homes below sea level and wait for the gov't to save you same time next year...some of these folks learned nothing more than how to manipulate a handout...

I was curious as to why the bus took them to Helen Keller.

Just remember, even if some were like this, not all were. I'm sure these individuals had no choice as to bus mates or final destination. Haven't you ever been part of a group of which you were ashamed?
You can't group the whole bunch in with the ones that only want a hand out and claim we owe them. A lot of the people are nice but most weren't. Did any of you watch NBC the other night where the woman in New Orleans was complaining about the grass being knee high at the houses on her street and has complained that the city hasn't cut it including hers? I think the government gave a lot of these people more than they deserved.

I know for a fact that ALOT of the evacuees at the shelters were asking for refills on their Lorcets, Xanax, etc....
But at a shelter, the medical team on seen are not allowed to prescribe Narcotics.
I know if I were evacuated, my medicaition would be in my purse, with ME.
MOST were just drug seeking. Roll Eyes
Especially the ones at the Phil Campbell Campus of Shoals. They couldn't even buy alcohol ! LOL
In Phil Campbell, matter of fact, I think most of them thought it was a Government Conspiracy to get rid of them.

OOPS (SP) SCENE not seen
I'm not. In all of the news reports -- I never once heard any of them say "thank you". The only things they said were "next time get us a motel room", "you ship us out and then don't tell us anything", "it's too COLD in the gym" and "we needs money bra"...to all of that I say:

If you don't want to have to evacuate -- DON'T LIVE IN A CITY THAT IS BELOW SEA LEVEL AND A PATH FOR MOST OF THE HURRICANES EVERY YEAR.

If you want a motel room -- SAVE YOUR OWN EMERGENCY FUND AND QUIT EXPECTING THE GOVERNMENT TO BAIL YOU OUT EVERY TIME--be glad you got a roof over your head and weren't living in your car, on a bus or in a tent.

If you want to know when to leave and go back when you want too -- GET YOUR OWN CAR AND SAVE YOUR OWN GAS MONEY TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION TO EVACUATE.

If you need money -- GET A JOB AND STOP DEPENDING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO BAIL YOU OUT -- STOP SMOKING THE CIGARETTES AND DRINKING THE 40s BEHIND THE DIXIE GAS AND YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME MORE MONEY...

And to the lady that complained it was too cold in the gym -- IT'S 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND YOU ARE PACKED IN A GYM WITH A COUPLE HUNDRED SMELLY REFUGEES -- WALK OUTSIDE TO WARM UP OR WRAP UP IN A BLANKET FOR GOODNESS SAKE...

And to all of them -- next time, please just say Thank you and go on about your business...we didn't have to provide you with anything, but out of the goodness of our hearts we did...next time you might not be so lucky...

..........................................Right again DixieChik!!!!!!!
Dixie is right, I agree 100%. I'm a diabetic and you can bet if I had to go somewhere else like they were, my insulin would be the first thing to go with me.
There may very well be some decent people among them, but I would say the majority of them wouldn't know decent if it came up & bit them in the butt. They would be screaming for a pain pill.
It's still a little hard for me to even have compassion then. They should still be thankful. Last time most of them didn't get out but this time they did a great job of getting them out and to somewhere safe.

They should be THANKFUL not demanding. And also their medication should have been the first thing that went with them.

Also the ones at NWSCC were harassing alot of the students on campus. I work with several of them and they didn't want to even go anywhere by themselves on campus near the gym because they were harassed.
OMG. Grow up. My point was that they should be grateful! I would most certainly be grateful if something like tht happened to me and someone took me in. Whould you not? I do however have compassion for the ones that came and didn't complain and were grateful.

you see in every group there are those people who think everyone owes them something and everything should be handed to them. THose are the people I have no compassion for.
My heart goes out to these people, evacuees, who were forced to leave their homes. Not sure what they would be returning to. Probably, a good number of them lost friends and family in Katrina. Does it anger where went people are so negative in regards to these people? Yes, it does. I guess I'm looking at the situation from my heart, rather than intellectualizing it. Forgive me.
Not only, did they seem to be rude and ungrateful...they, at least, some of them, were just plain nasty. The workers at the college said that some of them did ALL of their "business" in the showers. Now, there is NOT an excuse for that. Much like animals on the street. No compassion here. Where I can see where they were in a bad place. They needed help. I agree. Our people were good enough to help them. Then....they behave like animals who have been caged, with no social skills. Nope, no excuses.

No, I haven't. Smiler

Tac, you've never been on a class trip where the guys shot birds out the bus window? Uh, did you go to school?

You have never been embarrassed by a sibling, cousin, classmate, co-worker, spouse, or child you were traveling with? That has to be one for Ripley's.

As for those at Northwest Shoals, I doubt they were given the choices: Swearing or Non-Swearing, Grateful or Ingrateful. They boarded the first bus that would take them and didn't check to see who was boarding with them.

No, I have not & though your question seems to be in a sarcastic manner, yes, I went to school.

Firenze, why would it have to be one for Ripleys? I don't know what the big deal is. Yes, I have been embarrassed by my grandbabies before, but they are not adults. I chose not to hang around people that has no decency about them & that's my right though it may not be agreeable to you or others.
