..what would your platform be?

Mine (not all inclusive):

* America FIRST. NO foreign aid to ANY country until America solves all of ITS own problems.

* Major tariifs on most imported goods.

^ Major overhaul of the EPA:  It has mutated beyond its original intent to become a 'monster' with no master.

* Major overhaul of the IRS: Institute a flat tax of 10% on individuals/families with a net income under $100K/yr; 15% flat tax for individuals/families with a net income under $250K/yr; and a flat 25% tax on all individuals/families with net incomes over $250K/yr. No annual filing, no deductions, etc, etc, etc.

* 2-year mandatory military service for all US citizens unless physically unable.  1-year waiver for temporary physical 'disabilities'.

* Abolishment of the BATFE

* All illegal aliens would have 90 days to begin the legalization process, return to country of origin, or face deportation or imprisonment.

* Major overhaul of the welfare system.  No more 'welfare generations'. 1 year maximum welfare benefits unless physically/mentally unable to work.  After 1 year, anyone seeking a 'continuation of service' would have to work on government-managed community infrastruture revitalization projects.

That's to start. Please share your platform(s).

End all federal food assistance.  Make it a state function.

Man Still On Food Stamps Despite Winning $2M

Leroy Fick's Lawyer Says Client Has Done Nothing Wrong

A man who won $2 million on a Michigan lottery show has told TV5 that he still uses food stamps.Leroy Fick of Bay County admitted he still swipes the electronic card at stores, nearly a year after winning a jackpot on "Make Me Rich!"
He told TV5's Bill Walsh that more than half the prize went to taxes.
Fick said the Department of Human Services told him he could continue to use the card, which is paid with Michigan tax dollars."If you're going to ... try to make me feel bad, you aren't going to do it," said Fick.
Neighbor's told TV5 that they have also seen Fick driving a new Audi convertible.
Meanwhile, Fick's lawyer says his client hasn't done anything illegal. Attorney John Wilson said the state knows Fick won the lottery money, since it "issued the check."State Department of Human Services inspector general's office director Al Kimichik said food assistance on the Bridge card is guided by federal regulations.

DHS spokeswoman Gisgie Gendreau said under federal guidelines, if a person receives a lump-sum payment, the winnings are not counted as income.

* Major tariifs on most imported goods.

This would wreck the world economy and make us far less prosperous than we are now.

* Major overhaul of the IRS: Institute a flat tax of 10% on individuals/families with a net income under $100K/yr; 15% flat tax for individuals/families with a net income under $250K/yr; and a flat 25% tax on all individuals/families with net incomes over $250K/yr. While I'm in favor of progressive taxation as well as simplification of the tax code, the rate should be on a curve and not in broad categories like this, otherwise getting a raise could end up costing you thousands if it pushes you into a higher bracket.

* 2-year mandatory military service for all US citizens unless physically unable.  1-year waiver for temporary physical 'disabilities'.

What, has the Soviet Union taken over Canada and Mexico?  Mandatory military service may make sense in South Korea, but it's ridiculous to suggest that we need to maintain an army of millions.  It's pointless, the costs would be outrageous, and it's a huge breach of freedom to demand that every citizen give two years of his or her life to the state when our survival isn't at stake.  I really don't think you thought this one through.

As for me, I'm a fairly conventional Democrat, so I don't find a lot to object to in President Obama's platform or policies.  That said, I'm skeptical that we're accomplishing anything with the escalation in Afghanistan and think we should get out of there as soon as possible, and I wasn't in favor of airstrikes in Libya, especially without Congressional approval.  I also think that the Obama administration's unprecedented war on whistleblowers, particularly those who expose waste and illegality rather than legitimate government secrets, is massively hypocritical for a President who promised transparency.  My platform would include a promise of greater transparency as well, but I would actually mean it.

A totally revamping of the tax code.  I would begin with a true flat tax of 17% for all, excluding the first $50K earned by a family, and $35K for individuals.  There is no need to continue with a progressive taxation as long as we adhere to the belief that all are created equal.  The second choice would a consumer tax, with no federal income tax.  This is reality is the ONLY way to capture income from those who are dealing in cash only businesses (ie, prostitution, drugs, money laundering, etc). Again, this would exempt the first $50K family/ $35K individuals.

My next task would be an evaluation of the drug policy.  At this point in my life I think the War on Drugs is an absolute failure.  We might as well legalize pot if we are going to legalize beer, and then allow it to be taxed as well. Heck, if you don't want to pay for it, grow your own. Cocaine and synthetic drugs (XTC, morphine, opioids) however should still be controlled.  We could save ourselves a ton of money if we were not having to take care of inmates who have been locked up for pot use.

Enforce the current immigration policies. Make it illegal to hire illegals and pay them under the counter. First however, we have to get industries and unions together at the table and make both realize that they each are important, and make them compromise (both, not just the companies).

Illegal immigrants found working would be deported, those who hire them cn have the cells previously occupied by the potheads.

Encourage personal responsibility!  Not every bad thing that happens to you is someone else's fault.  A little common sense goes a long way.

End Medicare for those who are currently 55 years and younger.  Only those over 55 would qualify for Medicare.  Those younger would stop paying that money into the coffers, and they would receive instead a supplement to allow them to purchase insurance.  If they choose not to do so, and they cannot afford to the cost to care for them, the government would not intervene.

Stop supporting countries that don't give two ****s about us.  Stop sending foreign aid to these places, and encourage companies to stay at home to provide work for our citizens, by decreasing their corporate tax rates.

Term limits for senators and legislators, just like the POTUS, two terms and you are out.

we would agree on quite a bit.

America first: yes.

i would still respond with aid to contries hit with natural disasters, sending help and supplies and food and personnel, but no money no mo'.

i'm not sure about the high tarriffs. i like the idea of bringing industry back home, but am not sure the best way to go about it. offer cash up front incentives to companies who return the manufactuing jobs to within the us borders? add penalties to items sold in america by american companies, but produced elsewhere?

EPA: yes. also the FCC and the FAA, and any other all encompassing agency. did you know the woman who was head of hte FCC commity that decides about mergers of communications companies, the one that pushed hard to allow NBC to merge with comcast recently, resigned, and is now working for comcast? Hmmmmmmm.

yes to the irs.. but i prefer the idea of a 12.5 ish % federal sales tax. maybe not even that much, depending. i figure, the more you make, the more you spend. the more you spend, the more tax you pay. there would be NO exceptions to this tax. no 'tax-free' status. you gte what you pay for. there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

i don't like the idea of mandatory military service. we are supposed to be an all-volunteer military. this is far more effective, because it means the people who are in the service are the ones who WANT to be in the service. i'm not sure, if i were in combat, that i would want the guy next to me covereing my rear to be there because he was forced to be there. i want to be covered by hte guy who wants to be there. and if hte guy covereing my butt also thinks it's cute, even better. he's more likely to protect it.(in other words, total abolishment of any restriction based on sexual preferance. i'd also give women serving the option to, if they chose to, to be combat positions.

equality for everyone. period.

HOWEVER - i would make it a requirement to vote. a fully completed military term would be the only way someone would be allowed to vote. maybe even the only way to hold an elected office.

reasoning? - if you aren't willing to stand up and fight for your country, why should you get to decide how it's run? ( before you jump on me, i've never served in the military, so i couldn't hold office or vote either)

i'd also legalize pot. we are wasting millions every year to find, capture, convict and then house people for pot. there was recently a guy in louisiana who was sentance to life in prison, for a 4th convition of possession of pot.  LIFE IN PRISON.. for pot. Please. that's idiotic.

heck, i'd leaglize all recreation drugs that wernt lethal if taken incorrectly or addictive. ( yes.. i know that leaves a very tiny list) i'd also make DUI the same as attempted capital murder, and make a death caused by a dui the same as first degree murder.

hard term limits for ALL elected officals. federal, state, local.  there's representatives and there are senators. their terms are different lenghts.. i forget how long, and i forget which is which, but the one with the longer term would be limited to 2 terms. the shorter limited to 3. everyone else 2 terms.

as i reread over this, i realize it's more of a to do list were i to be elected king, not potus, especially the part about voting and drug legalization.... heck, all of it. POTUS can only get done what congress allows him to acomplish, and even then he can only hope it isn't undone the next time the other side takes back control.

but it was interesting to think about, and interesting to see the responce of others.. thanks for bring this up

not sure if i'm serious either.

however there is merit to the idea.

loud obnoxious big fat fatties like michael moore, who spend every minute talking about how horrible americans are wouldn't be able to vote.

if a person isn't willing to work and protect and sacrifice for the good of the country, then they wouldn't be able to help decide who runs it.

like i said.. i'm not sure about the idea, but other than generic rethoric and spewing, i've never had anyone give me a good reason why it would be a bad idea.

It's a bad idea for the same reason why mandatory military service is a bad idea, and they're basically the same idea except that you would just be making people second-class citizens rather than locking them up or however else you would enforce mandatory military service.  We're not facing any existential threat.  There's no need for even a draft, let alone the huge numbers of people who would join with your plan rather than have their voting rights taken away.  It would be a ridiculous waste of money and an even bigger waste of everyone's time.

There are people who are bedridden, people who are quaduplegic, people who are in constant pain. Cancer patients who are just starting to get over the sickness from one chemo treatment when it's time to go for another one.

Nope. That whole idea reeks of ****sm - if you're not physically fit enough to serve, you don't matter. Bad idea, no matter how you slice it.

except in a few years, it would settle down... people either feel the need to serve, or they do not.

i never did.* lots of people don't. how many 18 year old are going to do a 4 year stint taking part in something they have little use for? sure, it means they get to vote later, but right now they need to get a job make money and party their pants off.

i believe that the influx of people joining the service just to able to vote would maybe increase the number of military personel maybe 20-25% in the first 8-10 years and would drop off to an extra 10% higher that we have now.

no one would be second class citizen... that's silly. we have people now, some people work to build things, some people work to sell the things the first group makes. this way you'd have one group that serves the country, and one group that builds the wealth. you can't run a country without money and you can't keep a county with defense... they would be intertwined parts of the whole, both dependant upon the other.

and besides.. it's just an idea, no reason to get snotty about it. can't people just converse anymore?

* that's not 100% true. in high school my best friend had joined the army between his junior and senior year, went to basic, came back to finish HS, then went to AIT in Benning, to be a rigger  in the rangers. he'd almost talked me into joining when i came across a capt. in the national guard, one of the admins for the school i went to. he was an utterly horrible human being. if you wern't on the football team or in the jrotc, you wernt worth the time it would take to call you worthless.

i was sent to the office ( for reading a book. in lit. class. ) and he acted like i was the 2nd son of sam.

he accused me of being on drugs ( i wasn't) and i told him  "look, you believe what you like. nothing i say will make any difference to you, so you just go on and knock yourself out beliving lies because they make you happy."

and on and on. he presented such an awful example of an officer, it made me write off any ideas of the military.

shortly before i left the school for good, i was sent by a teacher to another room to get something. don't rememeber what, and he jumped me in the hall. " WHAR YOU S"POSED TA BE?"

i'm going to...

WHY AREN'T YOU IN YER CLASSROOM??

my teacher told me....

YOU CAN'T JUST ROAM AROUN THE SCHOOL LIKE YOU OWN THE PLACE, BOY!

i stood silent. he waited. i finally said "would you like me to answer your questions, or would you just prefer to yell at me some more? since you see to enjoy it so much?"

he stood staring at me. eventually he said "WELL?" and i told him the errand the teacher sent me on. which made him yell at me again " WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST SAY SO TO START WITH, BOY? WHY'JU MAKE ME WASTE TIME MESSIN WITH YOU?"

to which i said " BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T CLOSE YOU MOUTH LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO ANSWER YOU, YOU WORTHLESS WEEKEND WARRIOR!"

i thought he was going to explode. i've never seen a man's face that red in my life. we're talking crayon candy apple red, here.  i was hoping he'd pop a cork and hit me, caues by this time there was at least a couple dozen people watching, and i'd get PAID, and i knew it would at least get him busted, if not tossed out of the guard to punch a 17 year old student in the school.

he got real quiet and said ' your mine now punk. i'll be seeing you after school for the rest of your natural born life."

i politely told him ' no, you won't. i got stuff to do after school' and walked away. a second later i heard him yelling at the people who'd stopped to watch.

i never stayed after school. and i never joined the military. i figured if i couldn't just shut up and accept this nimrod squawking at me in a school, i'd end up in levenworth, or shot, if i tried to make it through the military.

all due respect for the people who can, and have, but it clearly it just wasn't meant for me.

all due respect, that is, to that one gasbag form my high school. he gave a bad name to americans as a whole, the national guard in specific. he was like a bad stereotype in a bad teenage comedy. pathetic worm. puffed up little blowhard with delusions of adequacy

but all you other military personel, my hats off to you, hoo-rah, semper-fi, and all that. you have my undying respect.

well.. most of hte people who are 100% unable to serve i nthe military due to physical or mental disabilities are people who don't generally vote anyway.

those are the people i meant when i was talking about the people who truly needed assitance. if they were able to go vote, but unable to complete a tour in the service, i;m sure an exception could be worded into it. they can't be held responsible for something they didn't choose.
