The French regional newspapers are doing reasonably well. However, the three national newspapers Le Monde (liberal and anti-US), Libération (left wing and anti-US) and Le Figaro (mildly conservative and mildly anti-US) are failing worse than papers in the US.
"Alain Minc, a former Le Monde director and now a close adviser of Nicolas Sarkozy, long maintained that if French newspapers were failing it was because of their lack of resemblance to the New York Times."
