On less to go out and kill someones child good riddance.

Just before July 4th my neighbors brother was in his yard playing catch with his daughter and his neighbors pit bull pulled his leash loose during a walk.  The pit then can running into his yard and he managed to get between the pit and his daughter.  He is 6'4" and about 230 and not fat and the pit got him once on the arm and ripped tendons then on the other around the bone and shook him to the ground.  They came apart and he tried to shield his face and the pit came under his arms and to his neck ripping his neck open and his carotid artery.  Thank God they lived in a suburb of Memphis and the Med was able to save his life and he surely saved his daughters life but he will be scarred for life.  This happened in a good neighborhood and the pit was the neighbors family pet on a leash and they raised it from a pup and it was not abused or fought.   The crazy neighbor would not turn the pit over to the authorities without a fight.

I don't trust Colbert County Shelter, I adopted a dog from them once that ended up with Parvo - when I contacted the shelter to warn them that they might have Parvo on site, they told me he had only been there a day or two.  My understanding was that they were supposed to keep new arrivals quarantined a certain amount of time to make sure they weren't diseased.  Very expensive pound puppy.

I met that guy that euthanized that dog last night at Colbert Co.'s adoption setup at First Friday in Florence. He's all torn up over it, understandably.

Yup. Pitties are capable of doing some damage, but it's really only 1% 'what the dog is like' and 99% 'how you react to the dog.' (Actually 'any' dog is capable of attacking and doing damage).

Pits are actually very good dogs. It's the element that they've been associated with that gives them a bad rep. If Chihuahuas had been associated with thugs instead of Pitbulls, people would be wanting to ban them instead.

People seriously need to take responsibility for their animals and realize that they are living, breathing, feeling beings.

Nothing irritates me more than hearing somebody say "It's just a dawg."

Uh-huh.

Consider this:

Of course, the man is upset. He & some others head will roll when the Bullington's sue & they most likely will.

There's been many of those stories where a pit has killed and/or attacked but the owner's response is "but he/she is a good dog".

Whens the last time you heard of a Chihuahua attacking or killing a child or an adult? Not sure why you associate a thug with a pit bull. I've known good, decent people that owned pits, they just didn't use any common sense by having a pit in the first place. jmho

C'mon semi. I'm pretty sure you're smarter than that.

Tell me then....How many YoMos have you ever seen walking a Chihuahua down the street on a spiked collar and a choke chain?

Not many-if any. That's because Chihuahuas aren't badass-looking like Pitbulls.

It's not the breed that's bad-It's the stupid owners.

Chihuahua DO attack frequently. But what is there to report? Officer, it was horrible. He left marks in my new Bruno Magli shoes? Even toddlers can fight off a Chihuahua; the mouth is so small it can't do much damage and a plastic bandage usually suffices.

Pit bulls and similar dogs can do a lot of damage due to the size of their mouth and the pressure exerted by their jaws. The point of this story is that the dog who was taken in was not guilty of any violent behavior.

Road Puppy,

I respectfully disagree as the breed has been bread to be violent and to attack.  Other breeds have been bred to enhance things like retrieving etc. and while even untrained they have the instinct to do what has been bred into them.   That is the problem with pits as in the case I spoke about good family pet never fought or abused snaps and almost kills a 6'3" 230 lb man.  They have been bred to be killers.  While you are right it's not really the dogs fault you never know when the breeding is going to come out and the dog follows what has been bred into it.   It is sort of like asking my dog not to chase a squirrel sometimes he can control his impulse "breeding" sometimes he cannot.

Yes other dogs bite and attack but there are only very few breeds that can kill a human and one of those breeds "pits" far exceeds the others in fatal attacks.
