I'm fairly certain that most of the vendors, at the market, have a good idea about how competitive they are with regards to the others at the market. You see most or all of the supermarkets putting their sales in the local papers so that people can make their choices about where to shop or who has the best deals. Some stores easily take the incentive to price shop out of the equation by offering to match any competitor's advertised prices. Competition does serve to reduce profits and create better deals for the public however I don't always just factor in price as my overwhelming decision factor. I also factor in the appearance and apparent quality of the products that are for sale.
