i spent a minute trying to decide where this post fit.
news is obviously wrong.. so is politics and so is religion where i spend most of my time, so i decided to hop to here.. Misc.. where al lthe random claptrap lands.

we decided tonight that we needed ricitonis for dinner. and whne we go to the down town area i promise we had not anticipated the depth of the mistake we'd made in our decision.

there was the most god awful band playing in the front of quiznos... a cross between bluegrass and leftover horse patties. i felt myself getting more stupid with ever note. it was so bad it caused physical pain. little old lady form pasadena, done on an upright bass, a banjo and an old guy who couldn;t hold a note if there was a .45 poited to his head. i don't know who thye were, but they sucked so bad it made me sad for them and the people who had to listen.

and yes.. i had to listen, if i wanted riccitonis... there was no escape... the entry was full, with no where else to wait except on the sidewalk while my ears got raped by these musically retarded people.

we had to park near compass bank and walk to riccatonis. no other parking was closer, and we felt lucky to get that spot.

on the way from the car to the restaurant we were enthralled with an astounded collection of cheap crapola from one side of the street to the other. never befor have i see such a usless selection of mishmashed bargain bin junk since the last ren fair.

never again will i even think about spending time nor money nor energy on court street on the first friday of the month. i like the veal marsala ricc offers, but i'd rather have a whopper jr than deal with the neck deep collection of idiots, crap, and talentless wonders that infest court street on the first friday of every month.

it's just not worth it.

I've never participated in the First Friday events, but I am glad they do it. At least it's something the City puts on for the citizens.

Secondly, since I wasn't there and I do not know who you were talking about, I can not really comment. But I do know that Doc Dailey and Magnolia Devil were to play last night at 1st Fridays and they are one of, if not the, best act the Shoals has to offer. I assume it can't be them you are talking about.

Isn't it great to be able to freely express your opinion even if it is completely wrong.

I'm sure if you had called the mayor he would have cleared the street so you could have walked quietly to your resturant, heck they might have even closed the resturant to everyone except you, never mind everyone else enjoying themselves!!!!!
Theangel, you would have been better if you knew that you could have gotten FREE PARKING at the parking deck. Then you could have went through the back door of ricatonis and had dinner with no problem. That is one of the least advertised things that the city tells anyone.
Just waiting for one day when someone comes driving up court st and misses the saw horse barricade they put up to block the street off. Poor Planning.

that would have been more fun. i might be an Ahole, but i'm not going to walk to a musician performing and heckle them. that's just rude and mean. heckleing a preacher who just shows up uninvited, however, might be a blast.

the really great part is that as it turns out i'm NOT wrong, because it IS my opinion.
are you goign to tell me that my favorite color is blue next? or that i don't like billy joel after all?

nah.. to me, it was all a bunch of pointless poop, cheap tourist-trap type crapola for sale at insanly inflated prices, really bad paintings and really ugly clothing.
some people seem to enjoy it but it was, to me, a 3 block suckfest.

perhaps if you re-read the last paragraph of my initial post, maybe this time you'll understand that i was talking about what i plan to do, not what i think the city should do.
i think first friday is a waste of time and money and a great annoyance and noise poloution - therfore, i shan't be going back.

now, if you would, please, re read what i wrote and tell me where it was that i said they should stop doing 1st fridays? where did i hint that the whole city give way for my desires?
where did i mention i wanted to be the only people in the restaurant?

i can't help it if my opinion of first friday offended you. i'm not goign to change it, and i don't really care if your offended or not.
guess what? i think first fridays is horrible. i hate spam, i would rather get stabbed in the thigh with a fork than eat cauliflower, i never liked the music of loretta lynn, i am not impressed by helen keller or miss sullivan, i wish wc handy had been born elsewhere, and i think the alabama music hall of fame is a joke. i also don't like fried green tomatos.

so what i plan to do is not eat fried green tomatos or spam or cauliflower, avoid country radio, stay away from ivy green and the redneck music house and just stay home during handyweek so i don't have to deal with any of it. oh, yeah, i'll be staying home on the 1st friday of every month as well.. because i've seen first friday, and i think it's a pointless collection of crap, covered with a layer of crappy music.

at what point did i even hint that i desired anything you mentioned in your over reaction?
it was just my opinion, why did it offend you so? it's not like i said ' anyone who enjoys this must be a hayseed retard who needs to be put out of their misery. '
i don't feel that way, and wouldn't say it if i did because it's mean and unnecessary.

i've never gone before, and if i'd realized it was first friday i'd have gone else wehre... but by the time i figured out what was going on we were already there and i was craving the veal.

i can't say i'm 'glad' they do it, but i cna say i'm totally disinterested in whether they do it or not. if i don't want to be subjected to it, all i have to do is not go... and appearently remember the date before deciding on what's for dinner Smiler

i have no idea who the (ahem) musicians were. there were 2 or three places where a live band was playing, and i dunno who any of them were. if the guys you mentioned really are amongst the best the shoals has, i'm going to have to agree - the people i heard can't have been them, because the people i heard were painfully bad. i was lookign for chuck barris and the gong. or juts some ear plugs. at first i thought they were part of an elaborate april fools joke and were going to break into the chicken dance or a polka at any moment.

i'm talking heroic level of sucking here....
Yeah, you might want to use the parking deck next time or remember that First Fridays is the first Friday in each month. That has been happening for a while now. If it isn't something you enjoy, stay away but why bash it when so many others enjoy it? Not everything is everyone's cup of tea. But a lot of work is put into it. Could it be better? Everything can be better. Including your attitude.
You've done it now, nagel. You've admitted to liking veal. (shaking head) Take cover, my man. I agree, there's some goofy stuff at First Fridays but it's a great draw for downtown restaurants. I can't believe most of the businesses are open late. The Wine Seller has a nice thing going. A good place to take your old lady on a date. At least it's a step in moving Florence out of the 19th century.

oh Noes!
i have expressed an opinion. golly darn my dirty soul.

i've known about 1st fridays since before they acctually started. i didn't think they were a good idea then, i don't think they are now.
truth is, if i'd realized it was the 1st friday in the month i would have indeed gone else where. i was thinking about dinner, not the date.

i plan to stay away. i'd never been there before. as i had never been there, i felt the desire to express my opinion.
if my opinion of what i found there wasn't helpful to you, by all means.. you are free to ignore it... just as free as i am to express it Smiler
i do think it's funny tho.. all of the people who whine about my additude are the ones who just learned that i'm not afraid to be honest.
could i have kept quiet?
sure.
but where's the fun in that? maybe my words will help keep someone else from wasting their time at this event. or maybe i will have irritated some one so much they go there just out of spite, which puts a few bucks in a merchants pockets.. so it's still a good thing.

attitude?
yeah. i have one. and i'm not afraid to use it.

like? no no.. i LOVE veal... i'd love to eat veal while riding a baby cow wearing baby seal skin pants and a baby panda fur coat and a hat made from the eyeballs of ring-tailed lemurs, and a buckskin tunic made from the skin of baby deer and using a candle made from the blubber of baby humpbacks as a headlight.

we enjoy the wine seller. the wife discovered a wine there she's just gaga over.

i 'preciate the thought, but walkin round in a circle on court street isn't my idea of a good date. we are both fond of impromptu picnics tho Smiler

well, ya know.. i can only be who i am.

if i had said :

"i accidently experianced first fridays. i didn't enjoy it. i don't ever plan to return."

where's the fun in that? the thread would have been 2 posts long, and, indeed, a wasted post.

now here we are discussing what a great country we live in (by way of recognition of free speach) and a side topic on the many varities of likes and dislikes on a culinary scale.

i've always been a person to call a spade a spade (by which i refer to a short, flat bladed digging implement.) i'm politically uncorrect, and while i rarely ever go out of my way to offend someone, i also rarely tippytoe around to make sure no one is offended by my words.
the way i figure, if something i say causes offense, then they are the ones with the problem, because i'm not offended Smiler

i apologize if the manner in which i express myself annoys you or makes you feel uncomfortable or irked. you should know i don't mean any direct offense in any casual post i make. if i DO mean offense, i'm pretty sure you'll recognize it.

however, like i said, i am who i am. my wife and kids seem to like me, my friends seem to like me, and i'm not worried about anyone elses opinion.

while it would make me a little sad, because i've enjoyed a lot of your posts, especially while trying to work out the recipe for baked bean and rice pudding, but if the way i say things is an issue for you, it'd be best to go on and stick me on ignore... because unless my wife /family/friends say soemthing about it, i see no reason to alter how i word things in any way.

perhaps i do have an additude problem - i've been told that before, but never by anyone who i cared what they thought of me. i think it's far better to have such a problem than to be a wishywashy milquetoast who's to afraid to speak their mind.. so they censor themselves for the sake of someones feelings and in the end nothing is ever settled, nothing is ever solved, and nothing ever gets decided or done and the poor sop is never truly free or happy.. he's holding himself hostage to other peoples approval, terrified of offending or being labeled as a person with a " piss poor additide".

maybe one of the qualifications to that label is not caring that someone else has given you that label Smiler

Well, of course. Big Grin

we had fried green tomatos tonight. they were ok, and i thought of you as i ate em Smiler
the fried bananas and okra were awsome Smiler
i picked up a counter top deep fryer from wal mart for about 40 bucks. filled it with peanut oil and i been frying the absoloute heck out of everything that holds still long enough.
this whole stupid rant is really worthless.

what the heck did you expect from an ART festival featuring local artists? a DaVinci sculpture on every corner? perhaps a Picasso?

the vendors are local people who pay a fee and do a lot of work to hawk their locally produced stuff. some of it isn't so good. some is mediocre. but then some of absolutely astounding. those with crappy stuff don't sell their stuff so end up not coming back. those with good stuff have the pleasure of seeing others enjoy their art and are back for the next one. it's a market economy that works.

the citizens who attend come for a beer or three in the local taverns and wine shops, walk the block and say hello to old friends. to see and be seen.

you obviously are antisocial and have zero perception for what constitutes "art." if you don't like these kinds of festivals, then stay at home in front of your Playstation and porn collection.

this event is conducted with no taxpayer funds and is 100% run by volunteers who willingly give their time to help foster more business and interest in our beautiful downtown area. for some buttwipe to waltz in and publicly criticize these fine people is just low but wholly unsurprising from someone like you. if you don't like it, stay the hell away.
Unob, for someone who freely gives his deliberately misinformed opinion on just about everything, you have no room to talk. Nagel went, he saw, he expressed his opinion. YOU on the other hand, purposely misunderstand what people say, or totally discount that they even said it, then express your unfounded opinions all over these forums.

I'm mightily sick of you, and judging from the comments of others in these past few weeks, so are a lot of others. I'm talking about people who used to like you, or at least respect that you were entitled to a different opinion. But when you refuse to even read what others have expressed, when you twist things people say, when you constantly take anti-religion shots at people over things that have nothing in the least to do with religion, you lose all credibility.

You are turning into a bigger joke than Bill Gray.

So some of us are not allowed to give our opinion if we like local events or not? You may not like some events that I do. But if you shared your dislike of it, I wouldn't dream of telling you that your opinion is stupid & worthless. That you are antisocial and have zero perception, or to tell you to stay at home in front of your Playstation, not knowing of you even have one & I sure wouldn't assume that you have a porn collection.
I wouldn't care & it sure wouldn't be any of my business.

of course you do! who the hell said that?

i am expressing my OPINION that theangle is a low life dirtbag for railing against a fantastic event held in our little city that is put together by hard working volunteers who have actually succeeded in turning this little event into a very large attraction featuring music and art that is somewhere between not so good, mediocre and outstanding.

anyone who disagrees with my OPINION is welcomed to chime in.

You implied it with your rant. thenagel gave his opinion & you jumped him for it, now you resort to name calling.

I know several people that do not see First Friday's as a fantastic event. They, like me, went one time & care nothing about going back.
Does that make us low life dirt bags for saying we didn't like it?
thenagel is a very nice person that gave his opinion, nothing more, & he's entitled to that.

ROFL

ok.. so i can't express my opinion.. but it's ok for you to express your opinion about my opinion?

did you even read my post? i think not. i didn't GO to the first fridays thing, then come back and complain about it... i went to dinner, haveing paid no attention to the date, and found myself in the middle of the first friday thing because we had decided on riccatoni's before we ever left the house.

i intend to stay away in the furture, and in truth, i have stayed away until now because it was not something i had any interest in.

i'm not sure what's got you rollin on your Anti-thenagel kick, unless you are jank in disguise.. which i doubt because she is at least eloquent, where you just assume and spew.

i know quite a lot about art, acctually. that's why so much that is labeled 'art' gets nothing but scorn from me. these days the only thing neede to make something ' art' is to make sure it offends almost every, or to make sure no one understands it.
there is a "sculpture' right now i na NY art gallery, of some dudes dirty torn blue jeans, hanging on a post. that's in. that's all of it. and yet, that is "art".

perhaps if you had acctually read what i had written instead of going into your amuseing little attack dog stance when you saw my name, you might have noticed that my attendance there wasn't intentional, but even if it were, how is it any different than what you do everytime someone mentions religion? at least my words are only my own point of view. i dont' expect anyone else to agree with me. while you froth at the mouth and spew hate and inanities and assume that you are smarter and know more and are more superior than the massive percentage of the known world that believes in a higher power?

yet i'm the 'bad guy buttwipe' because i didn't liek the painting or the banjo playin?

yeah.. keep flappin them lips, we're all very impressed.

that's what we do here, semi.

don't like the event? fine. don't come. but him being so publicly critical of the good people who volunteer their time to make it happen is akin to bashing the salvation army soup kitchen volunteers. it's just low and classless.

first friday's is a present to the community at-large from the art community. don't like it? DON'T COME. if you bash it, i'll feel free to call you on it.
Since thenagel has seen fit to give us all permission to voice our opinions, regardless of how rude and uncalled for they might be. I have one.

My opinion is that thenagel must be bi-polar. I have never seen anyone on any forum rant and rave as much as he does or say such hatefilled things for, what I can only assume, his own enjoyment. It seems that if he has an opinion on something then no one else has the right to tell him that opinion stinks. If they do then they are somehow trying to censor him. He also says to me in another forum that he doesn't like to hurt peoples feelings so he tries to make sure and cover his ass with alot of wishy washy statements. Then I come over here and he says the exact opposite.

I have been to first fridays. Not everything was something I was interested in or found to be worth buying or even looking at for that matter. But I would not refer to the artist work as crap. Art is not the same thing to every person. I can't imagine coming on here and tearing apart a band that had the guts to stand up in front of everyone and try their best to entertain a crowd. I can't play an instrument at all nor can I sing. I have great respect for those that can. Even if I don't particularly like their brand of music. I see that he did not have the guts to say something to them right there, yet came here under a screen name and rip them apart. What a coward.

I agree that the work that has gone into getting the first friday's going here in Florence was done by volunteers and has been a huge success. Taking pride in your community and trying to make our downtown area profitable is a great endeavor on their part. When someone who by his own admission hates pretty much everything about our little town from Ivy Green to the Handy festival and now first Fridays has an opinion about the worthiness or caliber of goods and entertainment, I think I will just write it off as rantings from an obviously and seriously unhappy and unsocialble loon.

That is just my opinion. So no one should be offended or take issue with it right?
