In another post I referred to being at First Fridays celebration in Downtown Florence and how I thought the crowd was down just a bit.  I hope this turns around come May and that the crowds increase because I think First Fridays is a great addition to the area and give local artist and others a chance to demonstrate their crafts and talents.  There, actually, was some talented musicians along the walk this last Friday and although one of the ones I remember seeing last year wasn't there (a young boy who used cans and plastic buckets as drums) there were several new artist along the way.

A couple of things that I think I noticed being different was that the number of people with displays have diminished quite a bit.  There are several vendors or displays that are no longer there and although there may be several reasons for that I'm wondering if those responsible for putting on the event haven't raised the "booth rate" to a point that some find it not worth their while to pay to be a vendor there?   Another thing I've noticed is that many of the vendors that are there now have turned their booths or displays around to face the street rather than the sidewalks and in some ways that's refreshing but in others confusing because in order to go from booth to booth you're constantly going from the sidewalk to the street and visa versa.  Still I think it's worth going to and is fun as well as promotes businesses in the downtown area and that's on thing that Florence has going for it and that is a great and thriving downtown area with restaurants and other businesses opening up.

Lastly I also noticed that Rick had added sidewalk dining to his "City Hardware Restaurant" but it was a little surprising that he didn't do the same at Ricatonis given that, from what I have been told, Ricatonis does more business.  Sidewalk dining seems to be more the trend in Florence than the exception and given that the weather was nice if I had chosen to dine while there I would have looked for a sidewalk table.
