Did anyone see the circus in action? Carrier made it a point to do a political ad every time he opened his mouth but it came back to bite him when he was reprimanded at the end of the meeting by Leland Howard. If Florence votes this guy in they will get a smart aleck, combatant mayor who doesn't even follow the rules he himself agreed to.

Funny, I see it the exact opposite. Leland Howard jumped on him in a VERY unprofessional manner after Barnhart's ignorant, whiney display...If it was honestly for getting off topic then it was Howard's responsibility to be as rude and obnoxious to Barnhart, then Carrier would not have had to say anything. It was an ignorant comparison to say that allowing a business to sell drinks on a sidewalk during a festival was the equivalent of the Neece loan mess. He HAD to be called on it.

Howard's failure to rebuke Barnhart and then turn on Carrier for responding to his stupid remark smacks of partiality and borders on incompetence. He and Pendleton are so far up Irons' butt they cannot see the light of day.
The vast majority of Florence citizens see it as MOBY does. If it is a circus it's because Leland Howard is the ring-master. He is an overbearing obnoxious blow-hard who is so arrogant he thinks people care that he has FORTY YEARS IN BANKING which he has said eight-hundred times. All that experience has done the citizens of Florence ZERO good. He had a leadership position as President of the City Council and totally squandered it. It is a complete shame. He is the one who is combatant and rude and ridiculous and Scott Carrier has shown restraint by not knocking his block off a number of times. It actually shows Mr. Carrier's cool under pressure as he has never responded in kind. He has maintained professionalism and decorum and it is obvious what's what here. The "politics" Leland Howard is so worried about is played by Bobby Irons and some of the rest of them to the point of nausea. What a bunch of raving hypocrits. It will take Florence citizens generations to pay for Bobby Iron's pandering for votes if he gets his way. A leader does not have to do that. With this spineless City Council he might. August 26th can't come soon enough. There are a whole slew of us voting to oust this nonsense and get it straightened out. Bobby Irons ain't gonna know what hit him. Leland Howard is too chicken to run again. If he did he would get slaughtered. He is the most universally disliked person in Florence political history, bar none. Wonder why?
Don't forget D-5 Council Person James Barnhill who compared the new On The Rocks business downtown wanting permission for a Street Party with the Bliss Block/Neese Real Estate deal as if they are somehow equally bad.

He then abstained from voting on it and it passed 5-0 with 1 abstention. Incredible. I guess he got that abstain stuff from Tammy Irons who did that on the State Legislature Pay Raise. Birds of a feather...

Mr. Barnhill politics all the time against Mr. Carrier and for Bobby Irons. Leland Howard never says a thing about that I have noticed when I can catch it on Comcast.

At least these people could have the courage to vote NO if they think something. ABSTAIN? What kind of crap is that? Then that goofy statement that is beyond belief. A lot of Florence politics and government is beyond belief.

If they would quit trying to protect Bobby Irons politically so much (why can't he fight his own battles anyway?)and represent their constituents and do what is right for the City things would be in better shape. They would not be so silly either.
It should be said that the reason Bobby Irons is pandering for votes so desperately now is because he has stiff competition and is in trouble. If he did not have a strong opponent he would not be compelled to do that. It is amazing what competition brings. Without that he could sit back and have a free ride. With a capable challenger he is showing his hand is weaker than people thought by all this pandering. A strong candidate does not have to do that and a real leader sure does not do that. It is shameful, but it is also a good sign for Scott Carrier's campaign and prospects. It shows a weak incumbent resorting to stuff like this. If he was really strong this would be unnecessary. It is un-ethical to ignore people for four years and then make promises to them a few weeks before an election. I think he is fooling nobody but himself. The people see through it.
I am not being disrespecful with what I am about to ask. I just want a straight answer from you (or the both of you as you would have it) FDR & HHF. I actually just moved here a few months ago and I am getting interested in watching how some of the politics turn out. I just wanna ask if you think by getting on here with who knows how many forum names and by bashing other council members and the mayor to try and make yourself look better or make everyone think a change is needed makes you any better of a person. From what I've heard, you talk straight into the camera and never look at anyone in the room during the meetings when it's your turn to talk. You go completely against what you all agreed upon 6-0 about not making political statements in the meetings. Everyone knows you are FDR and HHF, so will you please just answer those simple questions? Are you any better of a person or candidate? Is our mayor that bad or do you just use anything you can on these forums and in the meetings to run him down? I just wanna know. You could probably have a chance at competing for mayor. I'm just afraid with these tactics, you're really hurting yourself more than helping yourself.

I agree that many SEC fans (and I'm not talking football) have several persona on here. I personally think it works against Carrier, but I have been so disappointed with Mayor Irons that this is a small issue to me.

The point here is that OsborneInk states that HHF is a friend of his and is not Carrier. As for FDR, Pokey, Sasparilla, TwoManyIronsinthe Fire, etc., I have no idea. (When I first joined the Forum in 4/07, someone asked me if I were part of the mix. I have enough trouble being one person...)

That's what I like......someone who keeps up with the local politics.....knows what is going on.........ONLY ONE PROBLEM!

HOWARD IS NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION, SO WHO'S THE FOOL!!!

That is hilarious. I was thinking the same thing. Way to be on top of things Rod. Are you Rev. Simpson?

It is election time. Brings out the best in all sides. The only "clean" race I have seen so far is the Lewis/Betterton race. These two are acting like gentleman. I do find the Florence mayoral race entertaining. Carrier is doing all he can to point out Irons afflictions and is trying to undermine his credibility and character. The Irons camp is clearly frustrated, maybe aggravated is the better term. It's like just having to swat at that dang annoying fly that keeps bothering you.

May the man left standing be declared the winner, and may the loser go away, never to be heard from again!

I agree with your statment about Mr. Carrier. He needs to quit "slinging mud" and concentrate on the issues, educating people about his qualifications to be mayor, and the positive changes he intends to make at city hall.

I am undecided at this point. I think they both have good qualities. I'd like to hear them both present their "spiel" so I could make an informed decision.

Hey, by the way, I posted a poll "Florence Mayor Race" on this forum. So far, it's a pretty close race with Carrier leading. Of course, only about 19 people have participated, so it's not like it really MEANS anything. LOL

I'd like to see your poling numbers on that. Most of the people I talk to think Carrier grandstands too much and plays to usually a small loud group in the audience and the TV camera. He's too hot headed and emotional to hold any type administrative office that's for sure. It's the old Oscar Ray Peden politics at play for those old enough to remember his antics. It's probably good to have at least hot head rabble rouser type on the city council to keep things stirred up but I sure don't want one for mayor. I guess we'll find out in August if you're right.
Oscar Ray, oh my goodness! I do remember him even though I was just a mere child! He was like a banny rooster, ready to flog anything in site.

If we could figure out a way to eliminate all the political signs and the cost to hold an election, I think the mayor's position should be voted for anually. The competition just might keep them honest!
