My favorite is the Velcro Pygmies though. Besides playing fun 80s cover songs, hubby and I were dancing to the Pygmies cover of an 80s tune at the Live Bait in Gulf Shores when he proposed to me.

Another local goodie is The Garden Weasels.

The Velcro Pygmies are fun, and they don't cover Mustang Sally.

I agree i'm only happy, support local music, whether it be a cover band or an original band!

Indeed! If I hear Mustang Sally one more time...

YOu have to look at it this way: not alot of people want to hear alot of original songs by local bands unless your gary nichols or "Yak Hacker". the cover bands around here have to play cover songs because they are songs everybody knows. if the crowd hears a song they know then they will respond better. no one may clap or dance if its an original song. but it would be nice to hear a few originals from some local bands.
Don't know a lot of cover bands (not really my thing), but a couple of local original artists I like a lot are Doc Dailey, Lauderdale and Sons of Roswell. They're all really good.

I've also been checking out a lot of Alabama artists on cdbaby.com. I recently downloaded (for 9.99, since their cd wasn't in stock), a band from Mobile called Top of the Orange. I was pretty impressed, kind of remind me of Theory of a Deadman. I also ordered two cds from Alabama artists, Ryan Kinder and Within Reason. They haven't arrived yet, but I look forward to them.
