THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU WILL NOT FIND AT G'S WINGS AND THINGS..
Such as:
Boneless Chicken Wings...now everyone knows that boneless chicken wings come from a boneless chicken. Let me tell you it is not a pretty sight to see boneless chickens laying around at a boneless chicken ranch...The major compliant from the workers there is backache, as they have to bend down so many times a day to turn the chickens so they won't get sores..."G" personally told me that those chickens have such a hard time just living, that he could not find it in his heart to sell bonesless chicken wings...He did think about chicken lips though, but found it took too many to make a pound, and so rare, they were way beyond reasonable price...He played with Rooster Peckers for a while but found they were too hard to chew..and decided against them....
But he is extremely proud that he was able to find a Buffalo Ranch in Montana, that sells him "FREE RANGE BUFFALO WINGS"..however, he did say, he suspected that they may be slipping in corral buffalo wings on him occassionally...but he is on top of it...
Now! if you have never met "G" it is obvious that he has been out in the sun a lot, and has that permanent golden tan... He is large in frame, and standing taller than the average male, with a smile that matches his size...and he is a imposing fiqure in a crowd.
For those of you who do not know, "G's" real name is Barry Coleman. His father was a minister, and always called him "Good Guy. Over the years, his friends shortened it to "G" and I am afraid he is stuck with it...
"G" has become a popular fiqure with a lot of people who frequented the local eating establishments that "G" managed for others...
If you are wondering why, let me give you a hint..."G" is the picture board manager, that brings to the table a feeling that he really cares if you got the quality of meal you expected. If you didn't, he would do his best to correct the problem. he fiqured out long ago, what some managers never have....keep the customer satisfied and you will stay in business...This consumate attention to customer service, has brought him a fan base which he is carrying on with his "G's" Wings and Things.
There are many stories about the lowly wing, and how it came from just another soup pot filler, or trash can remains, to one of those dishes rating up there with the hotdog, pizza, and hamburgers..
As The story goes, the co-owner of the Anchor Bar on main street in Buffalo, New York, got a unexpected visit from her son, who just happen to bring along a passle of his friends... Needing something to fix as a snack, she had a load of chicken wings in the fridge...thus her creation was so popular, that they put it on the menu. They now sale over 70,000 lbs a month of wings alone....By the way her husband was named "Frank" and she toss the wings in "FRANKS HOTSAUCE" served with ranch dressing to counter the spiciness...
Wait! just for your knowledge...I just knew you wanted to know the original Buffalo wings were unbreaded and deep fried...
I know there are many different claims to fame about the chicken wings..but that is my story and I am sticking to it...you get your own...
MANY STYLES OF CHICKEN WINGS are served throughout the USA...with each style bringing forth different techniques of cooking such as baking, broiling, frying, grilling, sauteing, boiling, smoking, with combinations such as from the pool into the pit, and I can go on...but for this article I am going to stick with frying which is what "G" decided was going to be his technique...
Now wings come in various different ways...such as drumettes, Flats or sometimes called double bone, or combines which means the drum section and double bone section are served as one instead of separate..."G" serves the double bone or flat if you want to call it that, and the drum section. The tips have been cut off.
There was no breading on the wings, as they are fried skin only.
You can order chicken tenders, and catfish, but in this article I am only discussing his wings and the ways you can purchase them.
Our group wanted to sample a variety of his wings so we ordered different versions such as plain, med hot and hot buffalo style, and the Hawaiian wings.
They are listed by the lb which is $5.95...They are medium in size which means you get between 7 to 9 wings per lb. "G" will cook them plain, medium and hot Buffalo Style, and Hawalian style which comes out black in color and taste sort of burnt because of the sugar content ...not one in the group said they would purchase the Hawaiian wings again...they preferred the plain with the hawaiian Sauce instead...if you want to try "G's" various homemade sauces from honey mustard, ranch, blue cheese, Hawaiian Style, Hot Bar-B-Que, and "G's Special sauce (which has 10 different ingredients),I recommend you order the plain wings and get a sample of his sauces to try...
Our group like the Hawaiian sauce, the blue cheese which is very creamy with just a hint of blue cheese and contains small chunks. The Ranch is creamy with just a touch of sweetness to it that off sets the fiery burn of the buffalo sauce.( The hot buffalo wings start out with a slow burn and build up around your lips in just a few minutes...so if you don't like hot, we recommend the mild for the weak of heart... The Blue Cheese and Ranch both are a perfect match for the mild and hot buffalo wings.
The honey mustard was very good on the plain, but was not the pick to combine with the buffalo wings...The Bar-B-Que Sauce and "G's" sauce had a mix response...none thought they were excellent nor bad...the flavors landed somewhere in the middle for most...I would say if I had my choice, most preferred "G's sauce" over the Bar-B-que.
The order came with two small containers of slaw...the slaw was not given a good rating at all...most said something was missing, some preferred a white mayo base slaw, instead of having mustard as one of their ingredients. Some said it had a twang they did not like, others thought it tasted like something you would buy at one of the local supermarket only once...
Our recommendation on the slaw would be to pass and get another side...until "G" has time to either improve or change his style of slaw... either way that one needs to go,as it does not meet the quality of the rest of the meal...
Our group found the wings to be cooked as they should be..the outside was crispy, but inside the meat was juicy and tender...
Our group gave "G's" taste test a thumbs up, and all stated they would not hesitate in returning to "G's" when the Wing Bug struck again...
Remember! if its good tell the owner...if it is bad, BE SURE to tell the owner...this helps them to correct things they may not have known about, so the next time your darken their door you will not experience the same old thing..after all, without your input...all we will get around here is average and below average restaurant food...and YOU DESERVE BETTER
