My husband is the only one working. Where he works, they don't offer insurance. We barely make it pay check to pay check already, with a 2 year old. I'm serious, once every bill is paid, then I have to shell out the last $15 or so dollars towards my MRI bills, and my other myriad of bills. By the time they get paid, they are getting around $2 each. It's all I have, but it's better than not paying anything towards them.
I've called several different insurance co.'s and so far no luck. If I can get any advice on how I could go about it differently I am so all ears.
I don't have a diagnosis, but have been told that the appointments beforehand would count as pre-existing. Does anyone know if this is true?

That's really tough. I sure hope things get better for you. You certainly deserve a break.
Unclegus, and any others in that situation, get your major medical insurance nailed down permanently, before you wind up with a "pre-existing condition", even if you have to sacrifice somewhere else to accomplish this...you can't afford to be without coverage.
Crusty: what is the name of your company? I just want to make sure I don't take a job there. I would have to make a ton of money to be able to afford that insurance.

Manda, that really stinks. A friend of mine was in a similar situation. She was working as a freelance food writer, making pretty good money, but she could not get ANYONE to insure her because at one point she had migraines (ironically, the migraines were caused by stress from her previous job, which she quit to freelance). She finally had to get a "real" job and go work for the Man just so that she could get insurance.
Sorry, I know that doesn't really help your situation, but I wanted you to know that I can sort of understand what you're going through. People often don't realize how tough it can be--it's not just a matter of making a couple of phone calls.

You must have mis-understood. The company pays for our employees' insurance. The costs that I quoted are what we, the employer, pay.

Their reversal in their decision came too late...she died ...
The state is now looking at charging CIGNA with Manslaugher...and the family is probably going to receive one heck of a settlement...
But the bottom line is, the insurance considered her life less than their bottom line of profits...This lady could have been one of your family members...the power to exclude and the power to determine what and how long a patient should remain for treatment has to be taken away from the insurance companies...or at least save guards put in to stop this type of abuse...

I have been directly involved with the Engliah version and saw what type of medical treatment service the UK Citizens receive...it made me wish I was one of their Citizens...it is top notch and makes our system appear third world, callous, cold and cruel...
There is no free ride in the health system...
If you want higher co=pay, no deductible, etc...your premium is higher...if you want to accept greater responsibility for your health expense with less co pay, and higher deductible you can do that also...
We the american citizen can continue to allow the insurance companies to exclude on pre-existing conditions. One day your name will be on that list...thus we have over 40 million people going into the health system who have no coverage...who pays for that...we do...the hospitals simply raise their prices to cover those who can pay...the insurance companies, simply raise your premium to offset that need to keep the health system viable..
I assure you, you are paying more in premium than you would under a universal health coverage plan...I believe the best option would be to allow you to have a choice...choose the univeral health plan, or keep your private coverage...if you have private coverage, you get a refund back at the end of the year for the amount that was taken out of your check, plus interest for the univeral health plan..so in affect you would be saving money monthly, and have it available to give away at christmas..as we all are doing that now...
Regardless, the USA health care system, cannot and will not be allowed to stay its course...it has run into several rocks and the holes are starting to cause the boat to list to port...unless some bailing is done...all will go down with the ship...
