I can understand how a home as old as Ivy Green needs to be maintained and I guess several years went buy before someone took an interest in its appearance and now money is needed to get it back to it's original state plus making it handicap accessible and structurely safe.

Is the home not on the National Historic Register and do they not receive some money from that organization?
The Helen Keller home is a vital resource to this area.

First, of course, is the most noticeable one of tourism.

The more opportunity that we Shoals area residents have to share our history and heritage with others, the more useful we can become to ourselves and others.

Second, maintaining our cultural heritage and history is an integrally important part of our civility. It is, in a sense, our gift to ourselves first, then to the world.

For that reason, Helen Keller's achievements cannot be overlooked, nor should they be negated in this or any other era.

Budgeting for maintenance and growth area always issues frequently fraught with difficulty, and are never easy decisions. However humble, maintenance is the most important job in all the world. Without it, we would perish for starvation, our clothing would become tatters, and houses shambles.

Clearly then, formulating and allocating for future expenses -seen and unforseen- is something that can be, and ought to be done in the public and private sectors, in schools and in all areas of governance and business.

While I haven't seen the figures to which you allude, I sincerely doubt that funds are being misallocated.

However, your role in the event cannot be underestimated. Would it be correct to presume that you occasionally visit any of the facilities which you mention? Do you, while there, speak of the ongoing needs?

Being a responsible resident of a community entails more than merely living, paying one's taxes and going to work.

It is much like parenting in the sense that we, as a community comprised of individuals, take an interest in the preservation, promotion and procreation of our community, it's members and infrastructure.

I wholeheartedly encourage you to share additional details about the issue about which you're concerned, so that we also may be informed and responsive to your needs and concerns.

It has been noted that I live 1600 miles away from the Helen Keller Home, and I have never visited it. But, I think she is a shining example of overcoming hardship and disability. Her example and the memory of her life should be held in high esteem. If you don't want the money to ALL come out of your pockets, and it should not, start a charity fund to cover the cost. You should be able to set up a trust, and solicit donations worldwide.
Someone local should get the contract but the public should get to weigh in on the decision. Some one that does not hire illegals. Maybe some capable handicap group or school should get the contract.

I think "Yo Bro" did get the boot. It looks like "David L." and the homosexual movement at the Times Daily got him booted. It ashame that free speech does not apply to the media. The post that " Yo Bro" posted showing what Andrea Williams said to him about his post was ridiculous not to mention that last post he made about homosexuals was not as offensive as many others I have read.
