HELP My son's computer gets a AVG threat detection notice that says "antispycraft.com/shop?abc=cGdpZD01Jn19N Exploit Rogue Scanner (type 1586" it says object was blocked, but wont let anything exicute. AVG says "Your computer is being attacked by an internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a trojan-dropper or similar." It has an attack from and attacked port number with THREAT BankerFox.A

If I change to my user on his computer, I have run AVG and windows defender and nothing shows up. The only thing I can see different on his home page is a yellow shield with black stripes, and it keeps prompting to scan computer, but I don't recognize this and it has "self run a time or two, but I have been able to stop it. AVG wont run on his page and any action continues to say "Application cannot be exicuted. The file googletoolbaruser_32exe is infected. Do you want to activate your software now?" It doesn't say or have any symbol to let me know this is a "good" notice, and if it does start it is a green shield at the top, I stopped it because I don't know what it is. When the AVG warning comes up on his page I can't activate it because I get the above cannot be exicuted message.

Security status shows firewall, auto updating, malware protection adn other security setting all on. If I select Windows defender, I get a flash notice that defender is turned off and it immediately fades with the "unknown security warning" returning.

He is an avid online game player and I am afraid he has picked somethig up...any ideas?

Hubby, my hubby is the technogeek of the household. He suggests going to this website - http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22 - read the 'before you post' message and follow the instructions. He says they will set you up with a person to help you deal with any problems you have. I trust his judgement, he's kept our computer virus and trojan free for 10 years. He had some other ideas but is reluctant to give advice on this forum without a lot more information about your computer, operating system and a bunch of other technical stuff that I STILL don't understand after all these years.

If that doesn't help then I sure hope someone else on here can.
Geez this is great, first of all thanks for the help and second, that it doesn't seem to be a wipeout.

Does it matter which user I install a malware programs under since each user page is responding differently? Also, I've been told that spyware programs can cause conflict when more than one are installed. This seems like run in addition to the Windows defender and AVG right? (that is all on the computer currently) I suppose it would also be good to set up on a regular run if it does that. Is that what I need to speed my computer up too? How do I start in safe mode? I've only been able to do that when it tells me "blondie I need attention." haha

Don't mean to take advantage of your knowledge, but hey I'm new to this forum thing and I'm learning a lot!!!Thanks Smiler
No matter what AV you use you are susceptible to this. I removed is from a machine with Kaspersky just this weekend. Best bet it to use firefox as a browser.

You start a computer in safe mode by rebooting and pressing F8. To speed your computer us go to crucial.com and run the scan. The scan will tell you how many slots you have, how much memory you currently have and what the max is per slot. You should have 2 gig on a computer you use more than say a hour a day.
I am proud to report (with your help of course) that my son's computer is running fine now. It does take a while to run all the security at first, and for some reason the LAN settings were off, but after the tutorial explained where to look we are running great and faster!!!! 2 trojans and a root kit were doing their nasty deeds. So put the big "S" on your chest you saved his day!!!THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
Opened/ran in safe mode, downloaded/ran malwarebytes, downloaded/ran cleaner, deleted history/cookies, ran AVG, checked security settings. All seems well now, tho due to time I haven't yet added spybot.

Good luck, just thankful to have some knowledgable folks offer advice and save me some moola! I was surprised how simple it was.
I picked up a "new" virus in May. I chose to Google the virus to determine what anti-virus program actually worked with this fake anti-virus notice that wanted about 80 bucks to eradicate my problem.

PC Tools was the only one mentioned that had actually worked. It costs about 65.00 (I purchased a separate program as well). It got rid of it immediately and I didn't waste any time with the free software that might not have worked with this new malware.

If a free program works for you, great, but if you're having problems getting rid of the critter, I would highly recommend PC Tools.
