WILTON MANORS, FLA. (WSVN) - Two people were taken to the hospital after they were run over by a truck in Fort Lauderdale at the beginning of Stonewall Pride Parade, according to the city’s mayor.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis on Saturday night said police have apprehended the driver responsible for the crash at the festival, which is celebrated by Wilton Manors during Pride Month.

The twilight parade, themed “Out of the Darkness, Into the Light” had started from Northeast 21st Court in Wilton Manors at around 7 p.m., but the crash reportedly took place in Fort Lauderdale.

Trantalis said the driver of the truck acted like he was part of the parade. He said the motorist was on the parade route when he was was told to move up because he was next.

It was at that moment when, Trantalis said, the driver accelerated, running over the victims.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said paramedics transported both victims to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.

Trantalis said one of the patients has since succumbed to their injuries. However, police have not confirmed this information.

The mayor said the driver attempted to flee but police officers caught up with him and took him into custody.

Trantalis described the crash as a deliberate attack on the LGBTQ community.

In a tweet, Wilton Manors Police said the parade was cancelled but other Stonewall Pride Festival events will go on as scheduled. They stressed festivalgoers are not in any danger.

Wilton Manors Mayor Scott Newton issued a statement that reads, “A tragic incident occurred at today’s Stonewall event. Out of respect for everyone involved, the parade has been cancelled and a thorough investigation is being conducted.”

IDK about the trains, but I can make the spamateurs work.

You wish to judge Democrats by the actions of the few... yet you don't want your precious GOP to be judged by the same standard?
Perhaps you should see the definition of hypocrisy.

well the difference is one person compared to several people.  BTW  good job of swallowing the MSM jump to conclusion. are you posting that it wasn't terroristic yet an old man mistake?  or going with typical democrat oh well it is already out there for millions to believe?

It's since been proven that the driver was a member of the parade and accidentally ran over the pedestrians. So Robot Unicorn, are you going to print a retraction?

I posted the article as it was written, when it was written... was it incorrect, yes.
you'll have to talk to the Miami Hearld about a 'retraction'... but, lets be perfectly clear... the mistake wouldn't have been made, had Rightwing extremists not done this repeatedly.

Do you think it's justifiable for an elected official to assume that an incident at a leftwing event is an attack by people on the right even before the police investigation has been started?

Do you think it's justifiable to 'run over protestors'? Do you agree that 'there are good people on both sides' of racism?
People are always going to make assumptions and jump conclusions. Do you think it's ok for Republicans to vilify George Floyd? You think it's ok to vilify the DC Police for the Jan 6 insurrection?

The pastor of the Stedfast Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas is drawing severe criticism for openly celebrating a fatal accident at a Florida Pride parade that killed a gay man and declaring that he wants all LGBTQ+ folks to die and then claiming that it’s them who “enjoy murder.” The extremely hateful sermon is courtesy of Jonathan Shelley, who has previously been slammed for saying that rebellion public school kids and “lazy gamers” should be stoned to death.

This guy really seems to be a big fan of murder for plenty of different types of people, but especially for LGBTQ+ people.

Good people on both sides of racism? What does that even mean? Floyd was a thug through and through, a real villain if there ever was one. The Capitol officer who shot into that crowd should be tried for murder, he shot an unarmed woman. His name should also be released to the public just like the name of every other officer involved in a shooting is released.

What exactly did Trump say about the people who attacked the protestors in North Carolina?
hint: there's good people on both sides.
I posted and article about how many of the Jan 6th insurrectionist were armed... The police had no idea who was armed and who wasn't... but, they can surely 'stand their ground'.. unless Republicants are against that, now?
