would if be legal if they arm security and open fire on gangs robbing them? all these mob robbings remind me of pirates attacking unarmed ships.

Most people would be shocked at how much 'mark up' there is on store items. The mark up is more than enough to off set any loses associated with theft.
no surprise there for me, many stores have do not stop shop lifters. This is due to liabilities and that not prosecuted. One major store only the GM or asst. can stop them. Then all the do is ban person from property. What might employees be paid or item cost if it was stopped. However I was talking about the mob robberies.
The 'mob robberies' are nothing new. 30 years ago it was called 'wilding'. Groups of teens would enter department stores and immediately spread out, knowing that what security might be present couldn't monitor all of them. They would then grab merchandise and bolt for an exit.
