Of course, this is actually none of anyone's business but your own, but I was curious... I see so many web-sites posted about the State that has nothing to do with us here, and it dawned on me that maybe a lot on here aren't from around here???

If you don't mind... Are you from this area? I am,.. .. and other than a few years away for dependant Military living, I have always been here...

How about you? What area do you live in? What State? What is it like where you live as far as the topics we discuss here, such as religious beliefs, and things of that nature?

This is not a poll, of sorts, it is just a basic curiosity so that I know when I am talking to someone I KNOW if they understand what I mean when talking this area, or this area's politcs and such....

Okay.... who is next? I had my turn, LOL!!!

Born in Florence, lived in Chicago, Niagra Falls and Decatur as a kid.
As an adult have lived in Naples and Immokalee, Fl. Decatur, Haleyville for 10 years. Sheffield, Tuscumbia, Florence then Killen for 10 years. Elgin for 1 year and now in Muscle Shoals for 4 years....but keep getting homesick for the Killen area.
Vina, AL; Highland Park, IL; Red Bay, AL; Jasper, AL; York, AL; Cullman, AL; Red Bay, AL (6th-12th grade); Tuscaloosa, AL (1 1/2 yrs. at UA); Vernon, AL; Hamilton, AL; and for the last 15 years...Florence, AL

I was raised in IL during my formative years & lived the rest of my life in Alabama. So I speak really fast with a Southern twang. Smiler
I'll try to keep this short. Grew up in Marion county. Coming to Florence was going to the big town. Have lived in Killen, Greenhill, Tuscumbia and Iron City. Also lived in MS, TN and am now stuck in purgatory in NJ. The one good thing about NJ is realizing how much beeter off folks are in AL. The average homeowner pays about $3000 dollars in property taxes alone each year (some as much as 20k). The cost of living here is obscene!! My wife and I gross about 85k and are struggling to get by. A one bedroom apartment (about 700sqft) cost $1000 a month. Can't wait to get back to the South were your money goes much farther.
Moved here from Gulf Breeze, Fl. Hurricanes, dealing with the insurance companies trying to cheat everyone afterwards, and then later their rediculas increases in rates (ours went from $2400 to over $8000 per yr. Eeker)So it was goodbye Fl. Hello Florence, Al. Big Grin

Before Fl. lived, and worked in St.Louis,Mo.(interesting place to live, lots to see, and do) Cool WARNING unless you know where to go after dark there, its a dangerous place to live.

Before that was born, raised, and worked in Indianapolis, In.(I know, "HOOSIER your daddy?") Roll Eyes

Hated the cold, and snow. So now we have lived in the South for over 15 yrs. the beauty of the Shoals is a huge draw. Tornadoes though are another matter?? I'll take the Hurricanes over the Tornado's any day, at least you have a week to prepare for a Hurricane, Tornado's, little, to no warning period. Eeker

But I'll always love Florida, and the Floridan life-style living near the beaches. Just something about the salty-air I guess?

N.Ca here. Grew up playing in the almond orchards and corn fields. Its not that way anymore, nothing but houses, shoping malls and crime now, thats why when the chance to relocate came up I jumped all over it. I welcomed the chance to give my sons a little of what I had growing up......room to run!
In my work I have been to 47 of the 50 states and I have to say this seems like a good place to call home.
Born in Florence. Lived in Starkville, MS, for a few years while going to college. Now in Madison, AL, but only because I couldn't find a good software development job in Florence when I graduated from college in '98. I get back as often as I can to see family, but I really hate driving through Rogersville, Killen, and now any part of 72 in Limestone county if the roads are wet.

You probably have NO idea how much you and I have in common just by reading your answer here!!! How WELL I know about all the Steam, Gas Combustion, Hydro, Nuclear Plants across our Lovely Tennessee Valley Region!!!! Only thing is, most of the time they do NOT locate them in lovely places, or populated either, LOL!!!

Move to a town near Huntsville until I was 21, then moved to Florence, plan on if the Lord's willing moving to Cherokee or Iuka in about 7 years, going to buy me a rocking chair, a six pack and few cigars, listen to some of George Jones and Shania and the redneckinwoman music and watch the monkeys play.

What part of Chicago did you live? I was born and raised there.Near 26th & Kedzie. It was a quaint little Boehmian community when I first was there, but changed quickly to Hispanic.Lots of gangs there, had many friends die because of that.

I was in Iuka,Ms. every summer while growing up.My grandmother lived there along with the rest of my mother's family.I wouldn't recommend moving to Iuka, they are very clanish there.

I have, also, lived in Cairo,Ms.,Corinth,Ms.,then we moved to Cherokee,Al.,I would recommend Cherokee, the people there are alot friendlier.

From there we moved to Addison,Al.,Talk about out in the middle of nowhere. From there to Tuscumbia, then we purchased a house in Sheffield, where I will probably remain.

The people in Alabama are friendlier, than anywhere else I have been.

I don't remember much about living there, but i would often visit relatives that lived there. They lived on Sawyer, which is close to Kedzie. They enjoyed showing off their hick cousins and when they came here to visit they liked strutting around n their gang jackets. Male and female... "lords" and "ladies."
I could do a rendition of the Johnny Cash song: "I've been everywhere man." but it wouldn't be quite true. Born and raised in Florence, graduated from "TUNA", moved to Atlanta, then Birmingham, then Nashville, then Kansas City, Mo. then Mobile, Al. then Jackson Mississippi, then back to B'ham then came back here for my father's funeral and to lettle the estate and get my mother settled but due to her ill health have been here "temporarily" for going on 11 years. My home's in ALABAMA but I really loved living in Jackson Mississipppi, still have lots of friends there and hope to return someday. THE DOG
Lived in Sheffield all my life, went back to college as a "nontraditional student", I think that's what they call us old folks going back to college. Graduated UNA a few years ago and have not been able to get a decent job since I graduated. But, if the right opportunity ever presents itself, I would move in a heartbeat. Anybody hiring? Anyway, I live in Sheffield.

God love ya Jimbo. Thanks to the good folks at SEDA, the ONLY way you will make a decent living with your degree, unless it is in nursing, is LEAVE the area. Ask all those UNA graduates as they clean out their dorm rooms. GOOD LUCK and I admire you for trying! THE DOG
Born and raised in Florence, it was just a 2 minute bike ride from my house to Point Park. Finally decided we needed to make some money and left in 1998. It's a shame that the same people that have been running the shoals area are the same people running it today, just not in the open as they once did. Beautiful area, we still come back a few times a month to see family, but I don't think we could move back and survive.

well, hurry back here,I will buy you a cup of coffee so we can agree and disagree. lol
I was born a very small child, in a hospital named after a woman who was blind and deaf. If they're so good, why didn't they fix her?

Grad'd SHS during the Dark Days of R. Atkins, and with a bad attitude.

Went to Auburn, flunked out. Went to U of Texas, Austin, flunked out. Many years later, went to Woodbury U in California, graduated valedictorian. Go figure.

Now, I proudly subscribe to "Skeptic" magazine and wear a straw hat.
