Jeep, God Bless you for trying. If you have been watching the Florence City Council meetings, and especially the last one, it is abundantly obvious that with the exception of Scott Carrier, this council has made up it's mind (or RSA and Bronner made up their minds for them) just like the last council did that they are doing what they and RSA want, where they want it and when they want it. The citizens opinion doesn't matter, just so long as you pay your taxes and fees which they can keep raising whenever and for whatever. The ONLY thing we can do is VOTE SMART next election, not band together with some special interest (EX: well he goes to such and such church) and get elected officials who ACTUALLY have the interest of the citizens at heart and the backbone to stand up and correct the mistakes of their predecessors. Until this happens, we are on a long slow downhill slide!
Good point. How many people does the DII championship bring to town? Imagine something like that happening several times a year instead of just once. A nice sportsplex is a great idea for the area. That would be much more beneficial than an over-sized outdoors store. I've been to the one in Nashville. I didn't make a special trip to visit, just happened to pass the entrance in Opry Mills. I spent maybe 15 minutes there until I got bored. It's simply a bad idea unless you're a local city politician who will get a nice kick back from it's development.
Good idea for sportsplex. City should determine if there is a demand for indoor tennis courts, etc. That would probably be a better draw, than just a Bass Pro shop.
Why don't we just give Bonner 40 acres and a mule, outside the city limits and see if Bass Pro shop would sign off on that. It could be right next to Turtle Point G&Y Club. Maybe the Robbins would donate the land.
I dont like the idea of going all the way to gunnelford road for the sportsplex. Hotels and resturants are already near weeden estate and veterans park. Kids could walk, ride bikes, save gas, to the ball field like the old days. Sell the land on gunnelford road, dont through good money after bad.
What is the actual decision of building the Bass Pro Shop in Veterans Park? I've heard both sides saying Yay and Nay. Which is it? For me, I'd love to see Bass Pro Shops come here. I'm not sure if I like them using a park to build it, though.
I believe we are waiting on response from southeast investments, which is less than two months away. Then we will see if RSA wants to litigate the TVA decision. In the meantime constuction will probably have started on the sportsplex, which is far away for practice. Underwood, where one of my kids currently plays softball would still be closer to my lakeside highlands house. Which hopefully will continue to overlook a park and not a loading dock or dumpsters.
