I've looked over the forum post, from time to time, and I wonder just who is still around and what's happened to many that used to be so active and present.

I've looked at the Members list based upon "Member Rank" and while I don't know and understand what Member Rank entails or means I do know that some of the names (ID's)  are the same person.   I also then hover over the names and get an info window to show last activity and doing this really reveals a lot.

Jennifer & Bestworking have been said to be the same person and the last time she was present. on the forum was  January 2, 2018, six years ago and Jennifer was way back to Aug 2011 yet both are at the top of the Member Rankings with a rank of 150,517 and 111,202 respectfully, rankings that I think, I can say, will never be exceeded.  Then again I have no idea how one achieves rankings.

Bill Gray was very active until he was banned by the moderators, from the forum, and his ranking was 98,613.

DireStraits last active October 2020

Mr. Dittohead March 2012. (almost 12 years ago)

Semiannualchick was active last November 2015

INVICTUS last active January 2015

I not only remember each of these and believe I have communicated with each from one time or another since I joined June 29, 2008.  I can remember very heated debates, arguments, and contentious topics yet today it seems like everyone's left the forum and never come back.   Sadly I'm sure some may have died while others may have just lost interest in keeping abreast of things going on within the forum.  I notice they have my Member Rank as #8 based upon whatever measure they use but I'm now wondering is there a need at all to even measure such?  How many of "US" are there on the forum anymore?

I know I haven't really been participating myself but I have, from time to time, come by and observed what was going on in the old "Time's Daily Forum".  The forums I used to check in on routinely were Religion, Politics, Miscellaneous, Feedback, Sports, and Food Talk yet anymore there seems that almost all of those are so seldom visited and active.

Yes, there is activity in some of the most contentious forums but I'm wondering just how many people there are that are there arguing their point with each other?  'Well HELLO to my other forum friends and visitors, whomever may happen by to read this post, I'm glad some are still around.  I don't know how many of the "OLD TIME" members are still around as some of the oldest members may still be here but under new and different names/IDs.  And then I do wonder what has happened to all those I used to know and see so very active in here.  Are they still around?  Are they still alive?

I don't know how many really old hats there are here for I've been around a long time.  I came late to the Times Daily Forums as before that I was using other forums to communicate and talk to other people on.  Long before SnapChat and Facebook and Facebook Messenger and the host of other sites I can remember being on and participating on the likes of  "Compuserve" and  "Prodigy" ...  I wonder how many remember those?  Remember when there was Dial-UP and 8088 was a current Processor?  Not just remembering, but actually using, the 1980's original IBM PC, the Commodore 64 and the Tandy Computer?  Storing and keeping up with 5 1/4" floppy disk then 3 1/2" disk.   Man it makes me feel (scrap that as I am) OLD!  I remember though the various groups or forums on AOL which was it's own entity with user groups and the like and then USENET which today are more morphed into google groups  and the like.  There was something to be said about "the old days" as many might call them "the good ole days" but mostly they are just memories of the times that were and the challenges of dial-up and the actual sounds of the data stream as it came through the modem speakers until it synced up and locked in.

It's almost like trying to envision LP's (78 rpm 10-inch diameter hard plastic type disc, 33 1/3 rpms on more pliable 12-inch diameter plastic vinyl type disc that can usually still be found today many places and are making a comeback.  Then there were the singles with two songs (back/front) on 45 rpm vinyl records.  Then there was the really serious music fans who invested in and used Reel to Reel tape recorders.  I remember living in/through the VHS/Beta days and then the 8-track vs Cassette Tape arguments.  I can say I remember driving around in a car listening to AM Radio from the single center speaker on the top of the dash thinking we had it made before stereo opened our eyes and ears.  I remember pushing in the 8-track tape of my favorite group and that unique sound that the tape made as it was transported through the player.  The nice thing about 8-Track other than the quality of the larger tape surface was that you didn't have to pop it out and turn it over like you did cassette tapes but alas the convenience and size of the cassette was to win out.

Little could we even imagine, then, what digital music would bring.  We never could imagine that in our hands or within our touch would be entire libraries of books and materials more than a single building could store yet at our hands and fingertips to pull up and access.  Never did we imagine or dream that we could have entire album collections, thousands of songs, on a single thumb drive or micro-SD card and carry that around in our pockets.  Things and times that so many today can't seem to imagine or visualize.  Times when you had to stand up, walk over to the TV and actually turn a dial to change channels from on of the 3 you had access to and then to turn another knob to alter the volume of what you were listening to, again on a single center speaker with little to no fidelity.

Has our forum now become those memories of old?  Obsolete things that have become just memories for many.  For you that have read this far let me say that you may not have known me from the forum before but for those that have seen me before you will remember all too well that my usual talent was creating far too wordy and long posts, of which this one surely conforms to.  Some things just never change do they?

Some have moved on to places where they can actually discuss things rationally, and not be ganged up on by little cliques that 'report' them for every post they make and thus get them banned or get their posts and threads removed. Too, there were some very nasty folks posting here and I remember Semi, and I remember a nasty poster, a couple actually from that poster's little clique, that made fun of Semi's dead child. I think that one still comes around in another name. Some of them have died, some were banned wrongly and rightfully and moved on. Then you had the ones that tried to find the identity of some so they could harass them in "real life". I remember one old poster that came in posting lies about the identify of one of the posters, claiming she had found her and was putting out false information about her and her employees. She left after she herself was found and there were lawsuits being prepared against her for her lies in here. She is dead now. Turns out she was not what she claimed to be. It is a shame that a local site can't be used for discussions, but that is the way it is. Every once and a while I try to get discussions going but the same liberal vultures come in trying to stir the pot and call names. I block them but others argue with them.

Thanks for the reply,  I know there was some nasty stuff that happened and went on which I was shocked at.  I also know, or heard, that there was a time when there were some who met offline in a group environment.  Given what has happened over the years and the tone of some of the post I'm amazed that there was that ability to do so without fights erupting.

It's a shame that some people can't seem to get along and respect others even though there is some disagreements about what each believes.  Then again there is that old saying never talk/argue Religion and/or politics.

I'm one of the original organizers of the 'meet and greets'....

It's very simple what happened to the forums when you realize 4 of the top 18 posters, in the member rankings, are the same person.  Roughly 20% of the top 18 posters.
Just look at the topics .... is anyone else allowed to post a topic on the forums?
